PeskyWabbits 464
You're better off asking what people currently use and how their works for them. Otherwise wait for a torrent of Landcruiser v Land Rover v Cherokee v etc etc. I have a 1972 Series 3 Land Rover. I would never part with it but it is like riding in a horse and cart and does 65 miles on a tank of petrol. But it is amazing for carrying tree trunks, pallets, towing tractors and wagons and bowsers, pulling field shelters around. Carrying any old crap without worrying about the paint work. And I can fix it. Services are more £40 than £500. So wait for it.
mad4it 695
It depends on how much you want to spend. I use a ford ranger and cant fault it, one of my mates drives a suzkia jimmy and another one fait panda both are good for a vehicle to drive around flat fields but carry or pull much

tillylamp 1,839
Whats best off roader etc trooper etc etc and not over priced for field work in your case, i would say a dihatsu fourtrak would be the tool for the job, they were prone to rot, but a very good 4x4,
