Ruddy Whiting

Recommended Posts

Easy, use a livebait rig. Small hook tied to the bend of a bigger hook, bait small hook with worm and it catches the small whiting, cod comes along and eats small whiting and gets hooked on bigger hook! It's a bit of a waiting game once it's on there.works very well as long as you ain't using too big a livebait.

Down in Kent trying to pick up a codling off the beach has been damn near impossible, because of the vast numbers of whiting. Any suggestions as to how to avoid the little gits, and connect with the cod?

buy a boat........... :D......only joking...

you could try what forest of the dean redneck and ratattack have mentioned, iv'e tried the live bait rig at times like this, but with no success, like ratty said, it can be along waiting game, what beach are you fishing at mate?

Use the whiting as live bait mate, get a couple of live bait rigs out, and whack a big tough bait on a big hook out there, I normally use cuttle, elastic it on. The whiting will still be a pain, but not as bad.

I actually like whiting, saves many a blank, and some good size ones, we were having them over a lb last week, good eating and plentiful.

Where you at ?

Or you could just come out on a boat with me ! Once I get it back on the water

Live bait rig works at dungie I can assure you of that !

Nothing attracts whiting quicker than lug, to be honest, if they are in you will get pestered by them, but upping the bait size and hooks will mean you hook less of the smaller ones and it puts more scent in the water for longer to attract mr coddy

As ratattack and others have suggested live bait rig even if you just fish it on one rod. First read about this rig approximately 25 years ago in an article by John Darling in sea angler mag, although obvious now at the time it seemed a fantastic idea to be able to use a fresh lively bait at 80-100 yds
