Back At It

During the week one evening as it was getting dusky we were walking a hedge row that shouldn't hold any thing so I decide to let the dog off to see how his leg went. I took the lead off and said ok which means walk ahead but as it was getting dark he thought we were in lamping mode and went belting across the field looking for a squatter. Whistled him back and he flew back looking in good order so lead back on.

So this morning thought we would ferret a hedge where he would be unlikely to get a run but hopefully we could get a rabbit. So decided to take my hob his about 5 and a pet really as his not seen much work and the young jill. I really forced my self to leave the old girl in the hutch as knowing the hedge it wasn't the

place to mess about but stuck with it.

Once we were there I let the dog off and he went daft flying around a bit of cover. I gave him that after being lead bound for a month. He soon settled and got his hooter into gear and slid into the hedge. I saw him pause at some holes. It wasn't a 100% mark but worth a run.

I got some nets down best I could. Popped the young jill in and got ontop of the hedge for a good view.

it was all quiet then I heard faint bells some distance down the hedge. The rabbit had given us the slip and I wasn't about to pursue it lol.

Into the next field then and I saw a rabbit hop in the hedge just round the corner. Sure enough the dog caught the scent and just pointed at the holes so in we went. This hedge was a bit more open.

Only half a dozen holes. So nets down and this time decide to get the hob in. Much to my surprise he got straight to it thump thump then we heard a squeal.

Ears in radar mode

I new it couldn't be deep as we heard the squeal and sure enough was only a few inches. The hob was locked on solid fair play. Hope for him yet. The dog looked a bit miffed he didn't get any action. So end of session pic

then I noticed I still had a band on me wrist. Standing there think sod it going to have to go back the long way when I spotted the missing culprit right in front of me.

pink is definitely the way to go. So brilliant morning loved every second. The dog behaved really odd and did every thing I asked of him and lots I didn't he seemed in tune which is most unusually lol

The leg seems good but no rush and he wont be seeing the lamp for a good few more weeks

I really love it. Don't care what we catch as long as the animals perform half tidy and I get them home in one piece. I wouldn't turn me nose up at an easy hole now and again though

nets and stuff in the rucksack and in the shoulder bag I had a long rope as I planed to ferret a hedge by the dual carriageway and was going to work the dog off it. But decided to save it for another day

Fair play for ferreting those awkward holes, so many pictures on here are of lovely open holes with nothing obstructing them! I look on dreaming! Dog looks useful mate.

Yea I know what you mean open holes are very rare around here. The dog is a good one. He has a few issues but he does me

Flipping Eck Tel. Got to agree with some on here, that's one horrible hedge. I reckon if that was me last chance of feeding the family we'd go starving. LOL? Fair play son and glad the dug is back performing. Always look forward to your posts as you know. Stay lucky. Jok.

I don't know what they are all on about? Thats not a bad hedge pretty open in fact. :D

Twelve feet wide, solid blackthorn and bramble with a covering of ground ivy.

thats one hedge I might skip on my own unless I could get in it. The rabbits don't come easy in this neck of the woods for sure lol
