green lurchers 16,719
not quite to plan , the tuna moved out after hurricain matt , see no T head sharks, so off we went hunting the shallows of tampa bay with fly and spin rod , using the ospreys terns and pelicans as fish spotters we mannaged to connect with a few black tip sharks , jack crevaille , sea trout , ladyfish, snook, grouper, sea bass , and tarpon , the boys had fun altho it wasnt easy it was a great trip considering the mixed weather/wind , plenty of fishy tales of those that get away lol , we had jacks to 15lb lost them to 20lb on fly , and boated about 25 of them hard fighting fish, lost tarpon to 80lb redfish , and big blacktips but hey we had fun loosing fish 7 Quote Link to post

Bound to be some buzz. it is mate , just hunt em down with the birds and sightcast to the fish , sometimes you only get one shot sometime a couple of shots at fish before the birds and baitball disappear , then huntabout looking for it all to start again 1 Quote Link to post
green lurchers 16,719
Top class....... Again! How much of your own gear do you take mate? Don't fancy shelling on salty fly reel....they are hardly cheap.lol Matt i take a shoulderbag of fishing clothes few t shirts trainers sunglasses camera , the guides supply all the rods reels tackle flies , some of the fly rod set ups i use come to a small fortune , tibor reels ,sage and loomis rods , , plus all the lines backing n flies , they tie there own flies ,all i do is turn up and cast the rod lol they carry 6 8 10 12wt fly set ups and 10lb and 40lb spin rods , they got all bases covered as you never really know what you gonna come across, its a vast bit of water im well hooked on the style of hunting down the fish , what was in one spot one day is not there the next , you just look for the birds they lead to the fish then you see whats attacking the bait ball, best bit of action i see was about 500 jacks hammering a bait ball in 6ft of water a proper frenzy with the terns and pelicans hitting the small fish from above then a pod of dolphins zooms in and destroys the action, you get one or two shots at jacks by the time you land it the jacks can be over a mile away starting up again , this might last an hour or 2 then you mix it up with a bit of a shot at other species like snook and shark tight up against the mangroves , all good stuff for the young lads and me of course,, little jack into a small black tip shark,,then drifting down looking for redfish over the oyster bars tight up on the mangroves Edited November 7, 2016 by green lurchers 1 Quote Link to post

green lurchers 16,719
All being well I'll be on Anna Maria around may! Matt the tarpon run into tampa bay is incredible in may , thousands of 100lb plus fish pass within 50 yards of anna maria beach up the north end in groups of 5 to a hundred fish its an amazing sight , i fished there for a day and comletely failed , the sight of a group of 40 100lb fish passing within casting range affects your heartbeat lol, youl see a few skiffs on anchor waiting to ambush the silver king as they come up from the keys into tampa bay , , ive booked a flight in late april il be staying anna maria and saratota , will you be fishing matt? mattyg 1,862
The plan is to get some fishing in but until the mother in law gets the go ahead form the docs I don't really want to book a guide, may be too late by then, in any case I'm gonna have a go from the rod & reel pier I think.
