Accip74 7,112
Bin bags for general waste in my area (have to use specific bag) cost 40 euros for 20! ......I've got right into the recycling now... Same here mate, it's cheaper to do it.......none of this 1500 quid a year council tax nonsense.......just do it yourself and it costs hardly anything.Tbh I've took it as far as can right now. Obviously glass, all paper/cardboard, tins, certain plastic & I still have to put 2 bags out a week for a family of four. The only way to reduce it further would be composting......which will be a future thing. As regards tax, the belgium folk are taxed to fcuk mate! I think maybe more than most european countries........which explains why the 'black money' economy here is huge. There are still many restaurants & shops where you can't use a card! ;-) Edited November 6, 2016 by Accip74

Blackbriar 8,569
Recycling and 'green policies' are some of the biggest rackets going ! We have to separate various items - transparent pink sacks for recycling - provided free, but you have to collect them from the nearest tip, sorry "recycling centre" - transparent so they can check the contents, before they are separated and sold. Black bags for land fill...no money in that, so it's discouraged and you have to buy your own bags... green bin for garden and food waste (the contents are either composted and sold, or used in anaerobic generators and the resulting energy sold). There's a blue box for glass and small yellow bags for batteries, both of which are sold to recycling companies. We do the work to sort the waste, our suburban street looks like downtown Mogadishu, we have to pay to have it taken away.....and the council makes a fortune from it ! The government tells energy providers that they must use more renewables and green energy - these things cost a kings ransom to set up,so guess who stumps up.... "What about the millions of pounds in profits that we make every year ?" "Well, that's to pay a dividend to our share holders, really. We also use a lot of it to buy and sell wholesale energy between providers, and to speculate on future prices, which forces bills up unnecessarily !" "We could tell customers that it's vital for the planet's survival and stick the cost on their bill ?" "Great idea ! Have a two million pound bonus !" And don't even start me on seven quid lightbulbs !! Rip offs, rackets and backdoor taxes........

ChrisJones 7,975
It's €90 A YEAR ! mate What's council tax? What's the point? The last I read the EU fines the UK £100 a tonne, for any recyclable material that goes into landfill. That racks up quite a bit for 65million people. As no one wants to separate that they feel the need to legislate against it to appear compliant. You do the work, and pay the tax! Wonderful system. Over here there isn't exactly a massive widespread effort to conserve/recycle, I'll concede, but I get paid for taking my recyclable in as opposed to be being taxed for it. Which incentive would make you recycle more? Tax, or reward?
gamerooster 1,179
Saw a video of a fella who'd made a machine that melts plastic and makes it into blocks you can build with; another fella was making petrol with it somehow
