Am I Wrong To Ask For Proof That A Ferret Work

Recommended Posts

Think youre asking/expecting too much mate....give them some time and keep taking them out,get the hob out around your feet in the garden and get him used to coming to you and being picked up of the floor,if its only been picked up out of a hutch they can be spooked by moving feet coming towards them.I think youre just going to go round in circles in search of the holy grail,I wouldn't even consider selling one good working ferret for £130....but .ive pet homed a few I wasn't happy with for free over the years ......atb Dave

Sounds like it's not the ferrets who don't know what there doing!!

Fair point. Maybe if you offer them to come to your permission for the morning rather than go out on there's? Just a thought

Look at it from the seller's point of view. The few quid I might make from flogging a ferret isn't worth the bother or risk of taking a stranger onto my ferreting permission . Anyway its a bit

I have taken this years kits out today. Didn't expect miricles as this is the first time they have been out. Sat down with my flask and a roll up and enjoyed watching them work on the top and under ground. First earth nothing. Second earth they bolted one!! Absolutely made up. Just take your time with them and it will happen. As said before maybe offer a day out with you to somone who has working ferrets so they can show you and your ferrets the ropes

are you the fella on facebook that was inquiring about that 30 quid ferret. In fairness he did say if you weren't happy just bring it back ?

I think its just the pain in the arse factor no one wants to drag some stranger out ferreting over a ferret

ye that's me but that's not the only ferret ive asked about in the past 2 years almost all the ferrets ive had Ave been absolute rubbish I had 2 that would curl up and sleep at the entrance of the Warren 3 that only work the top and one that would sit at the entrance and pounce at you when you put your hand near her these were all sold to me as workers and I took people's words on them so in total I spent around 130 on ferrets that don't work I'd have been better off buying a bushing terrier
How many times did you take your new charges out ferreting? Sounds like they were new to the game, especially when you say some where farting about at the entrance hole. I'd also have a look at your routine, are you taking your ferrets working with full bellies? I know it's not the done thing to starve your ferrets for a few days before work like they used to do in the old days, but if they're coming off the back of a lazy summer they're going to have fat reserves and have less of a drive to go hunting. Reason I'm asking is you say you've spent 130 quid on ferrets, and in my experience most ferrets will bolt rabbits to an extent and even if you've been paying 10 quid a pop that still equates to 13 ferrets..
6 ferrets the 2 that fell asleep I gave to my mates father so now have 2 kits and 2 adult as for feeding there all on rabbit a whole rabbit once that is gone I leve it a day till I put a hole rabbit in again take around 2 days for them to eat the rabbit evry time I take them ferreting ther on an empty stomach the only reason I want a working ferret is to get the sent through a Warren so the kits can follow it also stops me looking like an idiot leaving the farm empty handed all the time

Ha, don't blame the ferret for looking like an idiot.

I have NEVER had a ferret that don't work, some are slow starters, some need time spent with them, some take to it naturally, sounds to me like your looking for one that takes straight to the job, stop been so lazy and put some work in yourself, honestly, if you have spent £130 on ferrets and they won't work, I would give up as you don't have a clue what your doing.

Example, I bought two kits earlier this year, never knew the bloke, never seen his stock work, never been out with him, both kits have been tried and tested, and are getting better every outing.

Theres workers and theres workers i blame folk mating there jills and breeding litters as its the easiest option and there just breeding rubbish a lot of ferrets ive seen i wouldnt give hutch room to , my latest permission has a load of easy ferret able burrows but theres a good few rabbits running about the farmers pulling his hair out the last guy just came for a couple of hours on a sunday the farmer thought it was to get him out the house , that guy thought he had good working ferrets no in my books .

the professional rabbit trappers no going to have a ferret thats only good for a couple of hours on a Sunday

But it does sound if this guys looking for the easy option buy a ready made ferret on the Friday and go ferreting on the Saturday . if you want working ferrets are you in for the long haul ? get a hob and jill try them out hard graft as many times a week as you can they make the grade , breed them same with the kits those that dont make the grade its good night for them you will end up with the good working ferret your after . there out there but you just got to sort the wheat from the chaff theres a couple on gumtree you might like poley hob have to get rid of as nippy £30 or two albinos no time for ( means there still biting ?.) £40 each must sell together for that money they would need to pack the car for me before i went out
