shropshire dan 467
As some may know I'm about to take delivery of my HW80 K in .177. I know that all barrels are different but can anyone recommend a couple of brands of pellets to try for accuracy. I'm thinking AA fields, H&N FTT and maybe RWS super domes. I've only really used AA fields and Webley accupell before. But before I get spending on the vast amount of pellets out their I'd appreciate a bit of help on what people find accurate. Should add rifle will be primarily used for rats and possibly occasional rabbits. Kind regards Dan Quote Link to post

I want to experiment a bit more but, my best groups of the day came from FAPs (7.3gn) and JSB Heavy (10.3gn). The pellets both seemed to be softer than any of the H&Ns that I tried - they seemed to slide in easier. At the moment, I'm thinking that the softer lead compound helps with a better fit when seating the pellet and, when the air hits the back of it on firing and, this in turn, leads to a better fit in the barrel and better accuracy. 1 Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Softest lead pellets I think I've used are AA fields matey. Give them a go Quote Link to post
shropshire dan 467
Just about to order a tin of air arms fields what would you guys suggest 4.51 or 4.52. What a headache this is giving me lol. I've been so used to centre fire and Rimfire now for years not this complicated air rifle stuff Quote Link to post
Jonjon79 13,358
There are people on here with a lot more experience than me but, I tend to default to 4.52 to start. Also, from what I've heard, if you actually measure all the pellets in a tin, you'll find a mix of everything from 4.50 to 4.53 (maybe more) anyway. I'd suggest going for 4.52 and just try them. Some of the serious FT guys get really obsessive over this point but, for me, lifes too short for all that. Good luck, enjoy, and Atb Quote Link to post
si brown 8,486
Aa's are my goto pellet when nothing else works, they will... like Jon said I recon it's cos there soft as sh!t. H+n ftt are the same as accupell ft but the accupels are washed and lubed and cheaper, I've been using them cos they hit harder And the accuracy is spot on! Atb si Quote Link to post
steg 609
What it's knocking out has a lot to do with pellet choice too.. Quote Link to post

I've been so used to centre fire and Rimfire now for years not this complicated air rifle stuff .52 will be so tight in that HW breech your finger will become uber tender after about 50 shots. Especially if you using a harder pellet such as H&N, or FT's. I guarantee. I used such a pellet in my old 98, and it just got to much on the thumb. But my god it was savagely accurate with them... Random I know but they sounded a bit different through the air, almost fizzed. The softer FAP, or fields pellet might be better with the fractional larger head size. But yeah, let us know 1 Quote Link to post
