garbs 90
I agree with that statement 100% but as you just stated it starts off with one type of pest being targeted and its brought to public attention and those that don't know any better jump on the band wagon and it snowballs from there. What about the other 20 odd introduced pests indeed? But isn't it better to start somewhere than try and solve alllll the problems at once .. 1 Quote Link to post
Migmac 1
They are certainly very capable hunters. Got to be impressed by their never give up attitude. When I worked on the estate as a trainee keeper, we got a call to go look at a fox killed ewe. Wasn't a fox kill, the ewe had got stuck in deep snow, the mink finished her off. Mink tracks all over the place, not a fox track to been seen. I personally see no place for mink in the Uk, our wildlife has been hit hard where the mink are. Where I am presently the mink population is fairly low, I don't run a trap line but if I see sign of mink i get the traps set. Quote Link to post

Sure, starting somewhere is one thing, but you've had feral cats causing damage for A LONG TIME before mink ever got there and no real effort has ever been made..... Quote Link to post
rabbit demon 302
cats dont cause the same damage to poultry and livestock as what a mink will. Cats can be useful on a farm for keeping vermin down, a mink never will be welcome on any farm here. I think there is still a bounty on every mink killed here. Iv been hearing of dozens of new born lambs found with their eyes eaten in one night here. Cats might eat song birds but they predate more on young rabbits and rats, their not causing hundreds to thousands of euros worth of damage in one visit. I like mink and think they are cool little creatures but i dont think any other invasive species causes as much damage here. 1 Quote Link to post
