Jonjon79 13,358
..... Well, it's actually a Pig farm but my mate's started calling it the Rat farm because there's so many of the little feckers We've both got early starts this morning so, we only nipped up for a quick visit last night. In the short time that we were there, we retrieved another 14 I tracked a couple of them through the bushes, along the back of the pens. When I finally managed to get a clear shot on one, they had travelled a few pens up. I got a nice clean shot on it as it came down through the bushes by a trough. Seconds later, I got his mate as he came to see what was going on. Now, I'm sure we've all lost our bearings at some point when using night vision - when I figured out how far up I'd gone, I realised that I'd shot these behind the horrible pigs pen. Bugger! When I turned the torch on for a look, the pig came running out, grunting and snorting. He stopped just before the electric fence - less than 18 inches away from me and, he really wasn't happy I wasn't going to try to retrieve those. My mate had more luck at the other end - he found a bottle-neck in one of their runs. They were coming out of the bushes, through the bottom pen, accross the lane and, through a hole in a fence to get to the feed storage. He shot a couple by the hole to slow them up a bit, then just picked off the others a they came along. I had a couple that appeared to bolt as soon as I put the IR on them. This got me wondering if they were fast learners. There were still plenty that stopped and looked at me when I put the crosshairs on them - it was like they were trying to figure out what I was doing - None of them had to wait long to find out while we were going round collecting in the shot ones, there was still plenty more hanging around, just going about their business. Some of them came well within 6 feet of us but, they seemed to know to keep out of range of my size 11s This permission is fun - there's plenty of vermin and, they're easy to shoot. But, it doesn't really allow for a hunt - there's no need to stalk or use any fieldcraft. So, this Thursday (fingers crossed) we should be back up to the rugby club for a couple of rabbits 7 Quote Link to post

PeskyWabbits 464
Rats are a big problem aren't they? Maybe it is a rat farm, if they have more rodents than pigs. Bear that in mind as you tuck into your next bacon sandwich. Good shooting, they are 'orrible things 1 Quote Link to post

Jonjon79 13,358
Nothing will ever put me off a bacon sandwich ...... There is a separate section at the farm, full of little pigs. I reckon one of those, minus the head, would fit nicely in my oven 1 Quote Link to post
