springfield 20
I owned a whippet/grey x saluki/deerhound/grey she's 17 months old and not had a season yet. Out lamping she stands off with her retrieve about 10 yards but is fine with a dummy or dried pelt and doesn't have any real aggression towards her catch. I've been catching upto 5 each trip as to no push her but want to up her runs. My question am I being to fussy and will she harden up after her she comes into season. Keen to hear if anybody has had a bitch having a season making a big impact on them. Thanks in advance Edited October 29, 2016 by springfield Quote Link to post

johnrussell84 2,832
every dog is different ,some will make very good dogs before 12 month some take a few seasons to settle in and realy make an inpacked ,one of my dogs was taking massive numbers at 12 month old and would take anything in his path ,my bitch took a while longer to settle in her first season she wasn't right to run and was a pain in the ars. her second season she was still a bit of an head fuc. but would do the job .so I spent time with her one on to one and put plent game infront of her ,she turned out to be a fantastic bitch ,by the time she hit 3 years old she was a privlige to own ,if I had of pushed her at a young age she would of been killed on a road ,she now runs the beam and returns waggling her tail after every run ,her recall is second to none and will retrevie very well ,some times you have to hold dogs back until there ready and only you should know when that time has come to push your bitch to the limits ,first few year is the training and entering so wouldn't worrie to much, after that you will have many a good year ahead of you ,good luck atb bobza Got a bitch the same right here just turned 2 and can see the change she's filled both freezers now with edibles 3 Quote Link to post

gamerooster 1,179
I think them getting there first season is a signew of them physically maturing, as we all know sometimes the mind is willing but the body isn't and it's easy to push them to hard to begin with... also don't forget Rome wasn't built in a day mate, pick one thing at a time to work on with her and keep sessions short and sweet, it'll all come together eventually Quote Link to post
