Kay 3,709
I basically think folks today spend 75% of there online activity nosing at what other folk are doing, Facebook is a classic example, I have been guilty of looking on folks pages & it don't take long to work out that there house is going to be empty from Friday until Monday as there away in there campervan , its hardly a surprise there house was burgled & the keys to there brand new Audi was taken out the house & the car The less we give away about ourselves the better
Accip74 7,112
Have you noticed how we are slowly being coerced to do everything through Facebook? Soon there will be many things we can't access without being a member. I'm still resisting, but I can see a time when I'll start to feel shut out! Haha....

If you download an app to a phone it tells you what it's going to have access to. Some of that is pretty personal. That's just the software designer. The next app is more important. Have they lost it? Or have they been told it's something else? I grew in a place where your privacy was respected. I know people are always in each other's business but when a government body wanted information it didn't have the right to take it. Now it's enshrined in law on at least two continents. Where did this shift take place. One minute it was mind your own damn business, now it's "look at me," while the software designer sells your information to any number of marketing companies. If you said to someone, 10 years ago, that there was a government satellite watching you from above you'd be a conspiracy theorist! Now people are painting the ground so it can be seen on G*ogle Earth Edited October 31, 2016 by ChrisJones
Welsh_red 4,831
Does make me chuckle though folk moaning about being spied on on a hunting forum of all places.... I find it ironic that people are saying that the downfall will be humans reliance on tech ......While typing it in on their tablet , phone , laptop , PC

The world knows all about all of us anyway, last year I got a new phone, I didn't register it , just payed cash for the phone & a top up for it, several weeks later i got in from work & I had a knock at the door & it was the police, they asked if I was ok as the emergency services had received 9 calls I was quite shocked at what they said so took my phone out of my work bag & it had 9 calls to the emergency services on it. I hadn't rung them it must have been the emergency button that got activated in my bag. What I dont understand is how they knew where I was . it wasnt a smart phone , just a very basic handset that was basically for me to use if I was out walking on my own . Asda yesterday was basically closed down due to no one being able to pay other that using cash, we rely on the world wide web for everything & when it breaks , we also break. I cant get my gas & leccy now without a internet connection .... I could easily become a recluse i shop online, bank online chat online .... I dont need to leave the house ........ it' s a sad world we live in these days........ news as it happens...... I can sit & order my tea & have it delivered . I could probably get someone to eat it for me on line as well .......... we live in a crazy online bubble I hope I am pushing up daisy's when it bursts
Caravan Monster 323
If you're using firefox browser on a laptop or pc, the Lightbeam add-on shows how many third party sites are connected to when you visit a website. For example, I visited 11 sites which connected me to a total of 76 third party sites (which are invisibly gathering data about my browsing without permission) Unsurprisingly, google and facebook look to be the worst culprits. With firefox edit > preferences > privacy > never remember history will stop some of this activity. I would imagine things are worse with mobile devices. The quantity of data gathered must be so vast, it is difficult to imagine how 'they' will process and gather meaningful information from it.

Blackbriar 8,569
I think we've got this all wrong ! We are not being watched, we are being 'monitored', for our own well-being, to keep us safe from those nasty Arab types.....if MI5 can't spot them, how can they protect us ? Every form I fill in needs so much information, but how else will services be tailored to meet my specific needs, if the council doesn't know everything about me ? They're only trying to help... And if my call isn't recorded, how will my electricity supplier train their staff ? And surely 'access to my media files' means that the software developer wants to keep me safe from those Russian hackers, who are trying to overthrow the American government ? Aren't all those shop CCTVs to stop ruffians from stealing stuff ? I haven't done anything wrong, so they can't be watching me ! Why would anyone want to watch me ? I asked my 427 Facebook friends what they thought, and when they had finished sending me pictures of their kittens and what they were having for dinner, they told me they were ROFLing because I was being so paranoid ! I've never actually met 423 of them, but they can't all be wrong, can they ? That nice Mrs May said that everything is under control and that I worry too much - she says I can trust her and that everything's going to be OK. The government wants to know if I prefer freedom or security....isn't it obvious ? The world is soooo dangerous nowadays, that I need all the specialist help I can get. And who better to help me than the people who invented these things ? So, I'm going to have a few minutes on WhatsApp and Instagram, before my JustEat takeaway arrives. Should be finished in time for X Factor !
