bigmac 97kt 13,813
Looking smart Mac Cheers FD she will still be dark when the oil is put on but she will be just a bit lighter than before showing all of the grain Once you have given her a light going over with the 0000 wire wool give her a wash over to remove all the wire wool filings that will be left on the stock then leave it to dry atvbmac  Quote Link to post

bigmac 97kt 13,813
Right the oiling ,(i did most of the work this morning lads so if it looks like im doing this faster than the times iv stated thats why) I like to put the oil in my hands or you could use a lint free cloth but i find that your hands are best i put the oil in my hand then onto the stock rub it in until you feel the wood and your hand gets warm keep doing this as it helps the oil penetrate the wood and the warmth helps open the paws of the wood for the oil to sink in better The oil i all ways use is the natural tung oil this has no coloring to it so will not darken the wood as much as you can see its fetched out the grain just the way i want it not to dark and not to light ill leave it to sink in for one hour only then wipe the excess of with a lint free cloth then she will be left until tomorrow morning then a quick buff and put back in her action once i have checked her over to see if she needs any more oil this will be seen easily as you may have dry patches on the stock where not enough oil has been applied if so just apply more oil and leave to sink in for another hour then wipe off as before . you can now see the grain has popped and all the grain is on show now im well happy with the result atvbmac  1 Quote Link to post

bigmac 97kt 13,813
last two right i all ways put some of the oil inside the stock where the action sits in to as this is often over looked when oil is applied as when your out with the rifle and it gets wet ie raining this part of the stock some times gets over looked as its not seen so the oil will protect the wood from the inside as well as the out side atvbmac  2 Quote Link to post
philpot 5,037
Can't believe how light the stock is after a wash Jimmy. Well I'm off to Suffolk again next week but I might try this when I get back, it might even make me start to love her a bit......................perhaps. Phil 1 Quote Link to post
