morton 5,368
I'm after a pup, I've been looking for ages and I'm struggling. I was originally set on a half cross, but can't really find anything, so looking for suggestions and any decent litters around or planned?? (not keen on collies) thanksIts a pity that you don,t want Collie in the mix,i firmly believe the finest lurchers ever created are Deerhoundy/Collie based.you're probably right, I just dislike the collie, always found them a nuisance and trying to bite you when you weren't looking on the farms..... I don't think they are rubbish by any meansThe best balanced Deerhoundy lurchers are better with something else in the mix,at times.I find the Collie influence brings an edge to the breeding that nothing quite comes close to,the Collie as an habit of doing that with lurchers.how could a collie x possibly bring anything good into a deerhound cross? Just curious as I'm not a fan of collie crosses full stop haha just my oppinionI could possibly wax lyrical on the finer attributes of the Collie, attributes that have enhanced lurcher breeding since lurcher breeding started, alas i find it is a wasted cause when falling on limited vision and deaf ears.Just wondering that's all, myself if I was to run a deerhound cross I wouldn't have it for rabbits or anything that looks abit like a rabbit there for I don't know why you would risk putting collie blood in there when let's be honest yes they are good at what they do rabbits and the odd long ear but anything with teeth there not the gamest of dogs, I'm not saying there's no collie greyhound out there that does the job on them but on average there a one or two trade dog, again Iv nothing against anyone that runs this cross i just find it mind boggling when people add collie to a bull x or deerhound x etc etc I just find it mind boggling that people stereotype any lurcher type when they have little first hand knowledge to fall back on,wipe the dew from behind your lugs and think with a broader mind. Mine may have been bred by a dentist. 3 Quote Link to post
Shaddy93 840
Listen I say again I have no problem with anyone running this cross it's just my oppinion that deerhound x on the first page has never caught a rabbit adding collie into it I just don't see how it would benefit it! You can sit there and give it the old "back in the day" but back in the day hitler killed Jews he doesn't anymore just like you don't see many deerhound greyhound x collie greyhounds about I just think to a deerhound greyhound maybe adding a saluki grey in the mix or even a wheaten greyhound would benefit it more... 1 Quote Link to post

Whilst the Germans don't kill Jews anymore some people still want to have the same pot filling lurchers or whippets like some people still use a catapult, yes they fell out of favour for bull xs or saluki coursers, but the people that do use these crosses ,are less likely to be on facebook or even here ,keep a low profile an don't get caught. 7 Quote Link to post

timmy k 591
Shaddy once you wrote saluki greyhound in the mix might benefit a deerhound cross you lost all credibility, how can you say on one post a collie cross isn't likely to do teeth but then mention a saluki cross, have a good look at yer self in a mirror and punch yourself and never say that dirty saluki word again!! 3 Quote Link to post
ratmogit 16
It'd be great, if anyone could put some pictures up...... Even a collie cross, don't want to get dragged into the German thing as my van is a mercedes =) 1 Quote Link to post

I started it off by mentioning a Collie in the mix,i dare not mention ive always had a soft spot for Saluki infused runners. Quote Link to post
timmy k 591
I'll blame your saluki soft spot on working nights, get some sleep, hopefully you'll forget about them funny eared things in the morning 1 Quote Link to post

Haha I don't run saluki crosses but I know a good number of lads that would laugh in your face for saying they don't like things that bite back that just shows you having seen any decent ones if youv seen any at all, yes I do run bull crosses and some of the best dogs Iv seen are collie greyhounds... for what they are bred for but I just think a deerhound collie greyhound isn't used much nowadays for a reason, if you want to run rabbits get yourself a beddy cross, if you want something for rabbit and the odd long ear on the lamp/daytime get a collie greyhound, you want something that's a jack of all trades get yourself a bull cross in all seriousness it's all self preference I like a good deerhound cross if I'm honest and I like a good collie greyhound but like Iv stated I can't see how putting collie blood into a deerhound greyhound could benefit it Quote Link to post
