Is This Myxi

Recommended Posts

I always thought they was myxi survivors so I leave them alone hoping they pass on the immunity to the disease I don't know if it works lime that or not?

If there's something in its DNAthat means it can fight off the disease it could very well pass those genes to its offspring, I would also leave it be.....not sure my dogs and ferrets would though!

No mine neither!! I don't know if it is something that can be passed on, does anyone know? But if so anyone who took some home live and started breeding and releasing would be doing us all a favour.

I got this rabbit yesterday on land were i got a few with myxi this week but the others eyes were all closesd up with puss this ones eyes were clear and was a bag of bones.

Peter, keep an eye on the area where you seen that.

I live a little over an hour from you and I think RHD is rampant around here at the moment, as well as myxy.

I was talking to a man this morning who seen a rabbit a few days ago sitting beside a bale of straw looking straight at him and he jumped on it.

The Rabbit was dead, warm, but eyes open and looked other wise healthy.

I know with RHD they die underground but around here landowners are seeing Rabbits dying in their fields without the scabs and scars associated with myxi.

Well jok , started with no rabbits on the ground at all .

Picked three different areas with myxy present, ferreted and long netted a total of about 27 scar healed bunnys.

Onto the eighth year now , though it has reared its head once or twice only 15/20% were affected.

The last five years we've took 300+ annually.

Even see stoats now the rabbits are back.

And they are still spreading.

I can't say it will work for everyone but it has for me,

Hope this helps , atb Th.

Treehands, when you say scar healed bunnies do you think with myxi that most of the scars are on top of the head, just over the eyes.

Look at the rabbit in Peters pic and there's some hair missing just below the eye. That doesn't look like a myxi rabbit to me.

I'm worried that RHD is rampant here in Ireland. The second strain of it ,RHD 2, has been proven to spread to Hares.

That rabbit is no different than any I used.

If I remember correctly a couple were hair loss was all over the head

And I don't think that is Rhd

When a rabbit has myxy sores appear around the nose , mouth , ears and eyes.

if it survives the scarring will be in those areas , along wilth a great loss of condition.
