Project Hw85

Recommended Posts

After recently buying another old 1987 HW85 and having a play this morning it is shooting within 22 fps variation over 20 shots and has a fair bit of recoil and twang. It is also very graunchy when cocking. Today I took it apart for to look inside and have a think about what to do next. I thaught I'd share my findings incase anyone is interested.....

Piston seal is sold! And loose on the piston like a wobbly tooth.

Theres been light graunching between the piston and cyl wall probably filings from that nasty spring guide!

Here it is back together....       The nice shiny sticker....     The result - mega smooth! Nice and easy to cock and very quiet, zero twang and a very gentle nudge to the sholder when sh

The vortek piston seal has landed     So got to work on the short stroke extension. I put the latch rod into a drill chuck and covered the top of the piston in tape to protect it and spun it near

it had swollen up due to age so i shaved it with a dremil, not ideal but did the trick!

it was that tight it had bent the pin that holds it on too, so i battered it straight ish but so it wouldn't fall out !

not perfect but did the trick!!

The stock has a couple of tiny marks otherwise it is as new! A real sleeper!

I'll have a think and update when I start work on it again.

Rez I think I'm going to keep it standard. A good debur/polish only to remove its age old minor scrapes caused by filings from its origional spring guide and fit original spring.

But with a new standard piston seal and a delrin bottom spring guide.

They build an amazing quality gun then cut the spring and then fit shite like that. I cannot understand it.

Its like building a quality oak cabinate with a plywood bottom.

If I keep it standard apart from a polish and an newer spring guide is it standard? Im only honing away the slight scrapes from the shards of metal the shit spring guide has shed and caused. Theres no way I'd fit that bit of chopped and flatten pipe shite back in what where they thinking!

An amazing gun with a chopped spring and a spring guide like that. I'll be keeping it as origional as possible but they won't be replaced parts like that.

Guys...

What is classed as standard? If I only replace that horrific spring guide with delrin one and polish the damage out is it still standard?
