Maximus Ferret 2,063
If the vet won't stitch and says to wrap I'd say put Hydrogel on, then a non stick pad, then wrap with vetwrap. Not too tight to cut off circulation but tight enough to hold skin that's left down to the muscle. Check/change daily and stock up on pads and gel because you'll be at it for a while until the skin sticks itself down. If you keep it clean and look after it I'd say the dog most likely will run again but as said above, it'll take a long time. 1 Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
That dog won't be running anytime soon definitely not this season, and if that's still open like in the picture, because the skin is gone, unless it's kept in a germ free environment it could end up loosing the leg.... Keep an eye on his temperature, as a sharp rise can be the first signs of infection. Good luck with his recovery, and look for a new vet, as a good one, wouldn't let you leave until you know everything you need to know about the injury you have just payed him to fix and advise on his recovery.. 5 Quote Link to post
Maximus Ferret 2,063
Agreed. The vet should have shown you how to wrap it if that's what he thought was needed. Quote Link to post
terryd 8,651
yes my vet gives me a print out for any aftercare needed and obviously advice and include a return visit for a checkup or any thing that needs doing Quote Link to post
Dalemcf90 2
stocked up as had a similer injury end of last season with my saluki whippet on some barbed wire but luckily managed to stitch as had just pulled skin down like a sock. 6weeks and she was back out running and got off to a cracking start of season. I can wrap bandages and change dressings. changing twice a day just now and cleaning with salt water hes in a new clean kennel and house at night. only wondered if anyone had seen an injury this bad and still had them work afterwords as i had him at vets within an hour of accident these dogs are my family as well as tools cheers for all replys though all info is appretiated 1 Quote Link to post
Who 179
Dermisol cream is what you want for that. Fantastic stuff. I would also change vets Quote Link to post
stagmad 91
A couple of posts back he said he had it at vets and people still telling him to go vetd how many actually read threads before they post. My thoughts exactly, he said he had it to the vets and half a dozen posts later theres someone telling him to to visit the vets before he gets a visit for f**k sake. 1 Quote Link to post
