Hi all

I'm looking at doing a strip, polish and fit in a drop in kit on an old hw soon. I was wondering about short stroking it too. Has anyone done or had this done to one of your springers and was it an improvement? Any advice would be apriciated!

Tom, would you consider shooting classic with your 80 mk1 ?

They are a tremendous classic along with the FWB Sports and what a "sharpening to marksmanship" you`ll get  .

Hi mark I ment hw85 not 80 oops i said wrong gun first!

Yes when reading your post on your fwb sport I am considering it!

When I hold it and look at it I get a warm feeling as I had a hw85 mk1 in my early teens and used to spend endless hours pinking and hunting with it - the memories came flooding back! I have even been sniffing it ha ha!

I might open it up and have a look inside and see if it's a cut spring in it and how the piston seal looks and have a think and consider keeping it original. Iv not had chance to take it out yet but over the chrono it's very consistent.

Get a gas ram. Same difference :)

Iv had had all sorts ov ideas going through my head but I am now thinking of keeping it original like mark has with his fwb sport.

Would still like to hear more info on short stroking tho I'm interested but can't find much info!

Don't know much about the science mate which is what it is really. From what I do know, it's all about lock time... Hence my gas ram comment... to get the locktime faster, you decrease the swept volume within the piston (short stroke) and use the faster more powerful spring. Bring on the Ox :)

Not all rifles benefit from short stroking... only the ones generally built to run with much higher power output really benefit.

Tom. Do it. Let us all know. Your the only one that can lead the way.

I'm not sure about the faster lock time thing to be honest. A faster spring can just cause more recoil.

Short stroking is about getting the optimum swept volume, hence why I bought a 99 as it's the closest thing to ideal for uk standards.

I know tbt is doing short stroke drop in kits, they might be worth a look, you could probably get a bespoke kit for the 85. I've seen one 85 before it looked awesome
