To Lube Or Not To Lube

Recommended Posts

well its been raining again today so i thought id do a bit of testing after reading a jazz mag!!

i dont buy the monthly mags very often but when the kids are getting there comics i some times grab one so i don't feel left out!! lol

there was a spread on weighing/washing and lubeing pellets....

i couldn't be arsed doing that but i knew i had two tins of the same pellet branded differently ,

so this is a test i did because I'm looking for a pellet as accurate as the jsb heavy but docent drop off so much at range without sacrificing clought!

enter h&n ftt and accupell ft washed and treated with napier lube that cost less than the untreated h&n

i zeroed both pellets on a bit of roof lath until they were p on p or as good as i could get!

the top are the napier the bottom h&n

the crono stuff turned out like this!

ftt- av fps 769 hi 773 lo 764 pds av 11.28 hi 11.41 lo 11.16

accupell ft with napier pellet lube av fps 778 hi 783 lo 775 pds av 11.56 hi 11.71 lo 11.46

so there is a slight power increase and the grouping seems tighter too

10 shot strings in .177 with aa s510

i'll be out on sunday to see if the crows like them as much

Was using ftt in the hw110 and the lad at Pickering guns said try these,

Same pellet but cheaper

The 110 was good with them too... A good rabbit stopper

So. Without reading your entire post. One group is from lubed, the other from not...?

Hold,on, you have a neat little Hawke on that sporter, now it's some big pro glass?

Just cos time is limited on a night Rez

Still prefer the rec on the cheaper/ smaller one

Hi there Si.

If your rifle is producing groups as good as this, you've got your answers right there on your targets!

Might give this Napier lube a try myself after seeing your results here.

My Airtech Regal loves Air Arms Fields 4.51mm. My HW80 and HW77 .22 spring rifles both loves H&N FTT in 5.53mm.

thought id try washing the standard fft and lubing them..

so did it make any difference!!

yes nothing too major but it'll make a definite difference at far range 50m

not sure if this is the proper pellet stuff but i gave them a light spray after i dried them

post-102306-0-69961500-1476538006_thumb.jpg

so ten shot sting centre and 10 shot crono

a/v fps 776 lo 772 hi 778

a/v ftlbs 11.51 lo11.40 hi 11.58

the first 2 shots ruined a one hole group cos the next 8 didn't touch the sides, i could of done an other string but it is a true test!

so prepping is worth it if you can be arsed to do it..

but a tin of pre preped under a different brand costing less is the lazy mans/my choice

have fun testing simon
