BlackDog1 134
Hi there, I've been debating whether or not to get an air rifle for a while now, and I have decided to go ahead and get one. I've done bits in the past when I was younger, used to have a Webley Exocet and a BSA Lightning. I only used them for raking about and nothing serious. Now I plan to do some rabbit shooting and also some target practice at a local club. What this post is about, is to get some recommendations on which gun would be perfect to start with? I think I would prefer a spring over a gas. Cheers Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,558
Hi Black Dog, The usual advice for this question is go for HW or AA springers. Good luck. 1 Quote Link to post
BlackDog1 134
I very nearly bought the TX 200 yesterday after reading up a bit on it, but I held back and thought I would seek out some experienced advice before diving face first. I do like the gun though. Thanks for the reply 1 Quote Link to post
mark williams 7,558
I use the TX 200 HC mk3 on a regular basis. I prefer .177 cal by a long way for decoying but I use .22 as well. Here`s a good day out I had this summer with mine. p.s. If you want a really poser type of gun - go for a walnut stock. atb 3 Quote Link to post
Jonjon79 13,358
You won't go wrong with a TX If you're after a quality, solid springer that is easy to maintain, I'd recommend the TX, Prosport and HW97. They're all good in any calibre. 3 Quote Link to post
ftm 3,357
is there any reason you want to go down the springer route? [not knocking them ] I think you should try both springer /pcp and then make your choice -good luck 1 Quote Link to post
BlackDog1 134
Thanks for the replies. My next question was going to be, which calibre would be better off? But as you have stated Jonjon, either will be good. Cheers Quote Link to post
BlackDog1 134
Ftm, the reason I would like to go with a springer is because that's what I've used as a kid and I enjoyed it. Although I do like the idea of a PCP and also the look of them, and I have no doubt that I will purchase one in the future, but for the time being I am going to start with a springer. 2 Quote Link to post
si brown 8,486
You've just me the tx appreciation club blackdog I've got a walnut one in 177 and it's spot on... charlie caller 3,654
Or a Walther LGV/LGU similar weight to a tx or HW but in my opinion, the smoothest easiest to shoot accurately, out of the box springer money can buy, oh and with a moderator, also the quietest by light years, and of course .177 calibre 2 Quote Link to post
shaaark 10,881
BlackDog1, I'm in an identical position to yourself. Used to shoot quite alot when I was younger, BSA meteor, super meteor, airsporter and a couple of my mate's other spring guns. Wanted to get back into it all for the last few years, so about 3 years ago I bought a brocock jubilee, fabulous gun, but I hardly used it, lovely and light and accurate as hell, but it just didn't seem right/normal to me. Shot my son's tuned ultra, mfr, mark 4 daystate and a couple more, and apart from the mfr in .20, they were all .177. And the last 3 weekends I've shot my mate's HW100 KT .177. Thought I'd love that one, but it's not for me. So this weekend I'm down to a couple of rfd's to have a good look at the TX 200 HC and pro sport. Will be one of these that I'm really leaning towards. Like you said, I enjoy shooting springers more, though I will be getting a pcp in the near future, they do have a couple of obvious advantages. But to get me back on track I'll be going the springer route. Good luck in your choice. Edited to add, yes I forgot about the walthers which charlie caller mentioned, will be looking at those as well Edited October 13, 2016 by shaaark 3 Quote Link to post
Baldcoot 2,352
Cheap and cheerful ive got a BSA Supersport in .22 .Nice easy to use springer ,cheap to buy and powerful enough for Pigeon,s /Rabbits upto 25/30 metres .You can trick them up with springs and things but mine,s and english standard ,later models are Gamo with plastic trigger,s and sights.Would love a PCP but the swmbo say no ,so this does a job of work and brings back childhood smiles .And if you do upgrade should be easy to move on to pay towards your new rifle atb 1 Quote Link to post

dayglowfrog 56
Dont forget hw99 alot of people end up with one of these having tried loads of other springers.very light ,very acurate, very fun . If you are planning on target shooting as in hft then you need .177 in a springer or you will be out in the open class against .22 pcp. 1 Quote Link to post
