Cooke123 6
So how did you lot train your charges to take fox beside relying on their natural prey drive, pre ban? Especially interested in the staffs after reading a lot of stabs' articles on here, was hooked to say the least. Cheers Quote Link to post

Cheers The only way to encourage a dog and a fox to fall out is to introduce them.I struggle to equate a staff,a fox and the majority of locations a fox needs to be encouraged to vacate. YOKEL 2,216
Still perfectly legal to work fox with terriers as long as permission granted for protection of game. As for staffs, I'd keep them well away from a dig in this day and age. No more needed than a competent earth dog and a humane despatch... Yokel 6 Quote Link to post
Cooke123 6
Of course, was thinking about staffs for above ground work but interested about all other aspects Quote Link to post

Cooke123 6
So these were just hens teeth I'm guessing? Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
So these were just hens teeth I'm guessing? Hens only have a tooth at hatching, then they lose it,working fox terriers are often bred to be a little more capable than the hatching stage. The art of a terrier is its use below, its in the name,no artistic endeavour below and its a Picasso and not a Monet. 1 Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Good dogs don't need training on anything ,just steering in the right direction . 4 Quote Link to post
Allan P 1,149
get the dog good round stock, basic obendience and get out there and enjoy yourself. The dog will pick it up the more you go out and about. The more you see the more the dog will hopefully learn. 2 Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
I agree there FD, good terriers tend to be naturals. Quote Link to post
terryd 8,383
My Jack Russel I just used to take ferreting then when he came across a fox to ground one day off he went. He was a thinker though and once he twigged if he stayed I would be along to help as soon as I could get to him he was sold on it. He would duke it out and as you got closer you could hear him getting braver lol Great days My cousins was the same when they are ready off they go so it seems. 1 Quote Link to post
