Naming Your Animals

I have now started naming dogs after local Welsh rivers that I fished as a kid. I have always been superstitious about naming dogs after other dogs, I have only ever done it twice, and the twice I have done it both died very young. So from then on it was a new name for each new dog.

My dad's had towy and teifi aswell after the rivers

Funnily enough some names go with females and some go with males. Yet I have always thought of rivers as being female. I have one here now called Cynon, which to me is a masculine name. If the next was a bitch she would be Mellte which I think is feminine.

Bran is a good male name .

 

Also gelert after the famous dog

Bran after Crow brook/ Nant Bran in Brecon. Daughter had a Gelert. What's the name of the stream by the stagecoach crash monument in Llandovery? Had a few fish out of there.

Always said my next dog would be called Gary or gaz as it was flagged up as being a name dying out in britain.

Got a dog called fecking Scooby because the young un named him

 

Ive a springer called scooby that the mrs named.

Glad it's not just me then ?? I hate the bloody name.

 

Got a lurcher called Scooby and a great Dane called henry I have to explain to every passer by who catches there names, it's a pain in the arse

What's the reason you chose or choose your animals names?

I called our white dog after a character in a film but my dad has had a name he periodically calls his collies . Think he's on his 3rd one called meg now . But they all have different variations of it . The two I remember were "auntie meg" and the current dog "meg the egg" . Kids called her that

I have a nice heritage bronze turkey call Chris, his name is short for Christmas as that's when he will repay all my hard work.

Watched an interview with the actor jimmy stewart. He wrote a poem called "A dog named beau ". Poem moved me and i said im going to name my next dog beau.

Its on youtube "jimmy stewart dog named beau" if someone would be kind to post it up. I cant do it on tablet, very good poem from a wonderful man.

My dogs proper name is beau, think it's French for beautiful woman

 

And we have a feral farm cat called Loki after the God of mischief/trouble

My old man use to name his terriers after folk in are street or surrounding areas penny Peggy Mary etc for bitches or ted Bernard bob Monty etc for dogs in the old days or go of colour bracken blue blacky me I let the kids choose

I use the same letter as sire/dams names-bud,barney,banjo,bomber-tina,twist,tanner,tuppence etc.easier to remember who came from who lol.atb dc

I know a lad whose a bit of a spacer who has a staff called mohamed.dog has crap recall its funny as fook when hes screaming the dogs name over and over.he gets some funny looks.

My dogs all have the same name, i call them fit to burn..!

 

Bosun, Fawn, Buck, Diesel, Todd, Sid, Tess, Jake, Bella, Ox and now Ike. All names i've given my dogs, no ryme or reason, other than i either liked the name, or it suited the dog.

Names for the future, Ethel, Betty, Moth, Alf, Reg, Wilf and Yozzer but it depends on if it suits or what i'm feeling...
