Mary 352
See loads on here saying they getting lots of work for terriers due to hounds pushing them down, I've never used one or know f all about them. There is a crew local to me having good run of luck with one, a harrier I think, so is that the way to go, what's the best type to use on its own(not a pack). I walked the legs off myself yesterday and checked a dozen or so places, no luck, but they are about, lots of scats and smells, couple of freshly kicked out places, see them regular on the lamp when after the rabbits. Would a hound aid my cause? Quote Link to post

Kaizer Sozĕ 266
One's no good, you would need at least 6 GOOD hounds to be of any benefit. And even then you wouldnt put foxes in at the same rate as a pack. You would need permission for hunting with hounds as opposed to just terriers, insurance for hunting with hounds..& help to watch cattle, roads etc. Isolated kennels...hounds are noisy. Hound trailer etc etc def not worth it, join the local pack & help out! 3 Quote Link to post
Dig-deep-draw-charlie 2,713
I had one, was ok in small bits, but serious hound work I would need few! Quote Link to post
milliken 793
In all fairness hounds can be hard work at times it takes a really good hound to find hunt a line and mark him to ground i only know of two that could do it regualy as for starting your own pack its real hard work to start its not easy to get decent hounds to start your pack and chances are they wont be fox only then you have the hassel of finding kennels witch is not easy its broke my heart we have had to move kennels twice you put loads of work and money into them then the owner has other plans then you have to excerise every day then price of feed then worming flea treatment and so on Then you need man power would be great to have two whips to whip in for you but on the upside the buzz you get watching your pack go flat out in full song over the hill and then find them marking to ground is the best feeling best luck what ever you deside 1 Quote Link to post
Shovel shy 4,033
Dont need isolated kennels.i keep 12 i live in a housing estate. Keeping one would be pointless in my opinion. Insurance and good help is a must. Hound work is something you need to be fully commited with 1 Quote Link to post
