ferretingnewbie 66
Just a quick question. I bought a working ferret last year off someone, he was 3 years old and used to it all already, I've been quite lucky with him I can put him in my pocket on a mooch and never have to dig to him so quite handy if I'm taking the dogs out for a bit and don't have to take everything with me. This year I have 2 jills which I want to work. It will be there first season (both 7 months now.) There both tame now and kids play with them everyday 2. The only thing I'm worried about is will they just run off or pick it up quite quickly? There from working lines. Also it sounds a bit like I'm a tight c##t but if I coller them up and they just run off I've lost a ferret and coller! Do I just put them down without a coller on and see what happens or is there a way of introducing them the first time? Or I'm just being a bitch? Quote Link to post

Unless you can ferret open feilds then you can see were they are. 1 Quote Link to post
northern lad 2,292
They wont run off mate, collar up the hob and one of the jills and put them in together, she will follow him.Dont worry about em running off,be too interested in all the new smells, surroundings etc,do small ones at first 5/6 holers, dont be surprised if you have to dig though,Ive never owned one I didn't have to dig to,Im guessing that's why it was sold on...atb Dave 2 Quote Link to post
ferretingnewbie 66
Thanks for the replys il try that. Its still really overgrown here at the moment so gona give it a few weeks yet. It was my first ferret mainly cos the kids wanted to start ferreting but quite happy I don't have to dig to him as only take him when walking the dogs on a mooch. I got permission of a couple of fields off a farmer last year but all of a sudden they have disappeared. Noticed yesterday from the dogs there's fox and cubs not far away so guessing that's where there all gone. The bloke I bought it went from ferreting to shooting apparently. He gave it all up so I bought the lot off him. Quote Link to post
Tyla 3,179
Why would you not collar them up? Isn't that the whole point of locater collars??? 1 Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
Get some bells, always handy when ferreting on ya own, or in heavy cover. Edit to add just as important as the receiver Edited October 4, 2016 by slip lead Quote Link to post

northern lad 2,292
Those of yous using bells do you not find them a pain in the arse for snagging the nets, been out with a couple of lads who use them and tbh the problems they caused with the nets outweighed the benefits of the bell??
