Kiellovesannie 24
Well shows one thing my dogs ready for it at 10 month rabbits only obvs I've had a few with her never hard runs mostly squatters so I've not knocked her confidence she's doing me fine loads of people run dogs earlier than others each to there own I say if I noticed my dog wasn't ready I'd hold it back a lot longer 1 Quote Link to post
Kiellovesannie 24
As you said whitefeet you noticed the change in your dog so have I with mine if she wasn't ready she wouldn't pick them up or have killed a rat with her too she's obvs got it in her I don't run her constant I've took her with my mate and let her watch a few times Quote Link to post

frankel 2,123
I don't know why people rush into taking young pups when they have a older experienced dog to run. 1 Quote Link to post
grompz 704
like lots of the lads say dropping rabbits for pups and breaking paws on them to make them easier to catch, totally illegal and needless cruelty, just wait for pups to mature, and give them good honest runs, and ffs dont give the antis any more fuel to stop our sport, act like responsible people and not morons. 8 Quote Link to post
Kiellovesannie 24
Holding them back and letting them do it all in good time I'll take them ferreting around 8 9 months old and go from there Quote Link to post
jcm 2,327
I have 3dogsbecause I enjoy lurchers and I have the space for them I've had lurcher before and done things differently with my other dogs by the sounds of things Im better off waiting for my pups to grow like ppl say no rush is there I've listened to the comments and I am going to wait till I think the dogs ready and carry on with my 10 month old bit ha d focus on her for new and leave my pups to be pups atb I enjoy lurchers keeping and working lurchers myself, but 3 pups!! I mean you sound as if you have just started out in this game asking these type of questions. I wouldn't even try to fetch 3 pups on you will never have the work for three dogs and never get the best out of them. You will favour one pup and the other 2 will go to waste. 2 Quote Link to post

He must be on the dole to have the time for 3 pups ? No offence intended mate ? 1 Quote Link to post

fourtrak73 1,334
I have just broke two pups 12 month old last week, brother and sister, yes its hard work, had them on the moor everyday from 3 month old, they are now perfect in every way the more time you put into them the better they will be, atb with your pups, the best advice I can give is let them be pups and don't push them too hard 1 Quote Link to post
king 11,984
To many people on here blasting off about when to do this and that with a dog. Ffs at 5 months old its a pup. It was only weaned 12 weeks ago. Fair enough at 6 months get it out ferreting so it can see netted bunnys and take hold of them. Personally the way i see it with a lot of lads on here they just look at a dog as a tool. Not a living animal that wants nothing more than a strong bond with its owner. Once that proper bond is grown the dog will aim to please you at all costs. Lamping a 5 month old dog. Ffs give the dog the best food you can afford. A pint in a pub is £3 £3 will give a dog a cracking bit of fresh meat. But more than anything give the dog time. Grow a bond. A mate of mine who is a young lad early 20s and is on here and has really got his head screwed on would open your eyes.ive told him myself hes got an old head on young shoulders. And i would bet anyone on this whole forum who had a walk out with him would agree. Let the dog grow his muscles.tendons.ligaments.bones. And above all brain. 1 Quote Link to post
