My mate has whippets and he has had plenty of game with his,the bitch is 21tts and it's son is 22tts and had hold of big game down to munjack pre ban of course.for a little dog they have big hearts like a lot of big dogs but they are to small to release this.if I had the chance i would go for a 1stx whippet/deerhound but there is none of them around but like said the lads who haven't had a whippet slate them until they see the real deal work.thats the thing on this site there's to many want to be hunters who don't have a clue and I think they should start learning before they judge comment and what a shock they will get.atb

ok mate lol, nice dog  i liked the none ped racing whippets , some of the males hit 22-23in 30 odd lb down the track , great dogs maybe the wind not as good as ped coursing types , but they catch quick anyway , and in the lamp no prob , my little none ped racing bitch i had was great in the lamp , she scoop rabbits up quick, and as said lad use males on foxes regular tough little dogs  ive always liked whippets great dogs, just preferred none ped racers , prob because thats what i had

I love to see a fast dog run any quarry,or even a lure or tennis ball.

But I don't like spending my hard earned getting dogs sewn back together,so I'll be going the other way and looking for a more durable type of lurcher next time, unfortunately.

Until I win the lottery that is.

Nice pup Kennymc.

I've liked Whippets since I was a nipper, yep, I liked Whippets BEFORE it was FASHIONABLE to like Whippets!.

If you want a little companion dog that you can also have a bit of sport with, then a Whippet would suit most recreational hunters.

Ive had non ped racing whippets and cannot fault them a 32lb dog is able to take all legal quarry, and some pre ban could take charley mine did. A working whippet will give 100 percent, most lurchermen realistically would only need a whippet for the amount of work they do. Great little dogs that are a joy to own,

Just keep it for what it's good for ... Showing at the kennel club shows and keeping your lap warm ... Leave the working dog shows to working dogs ........

Socks - if half the lurchers at a working dog show worked I'd be surprised, and if the ones that did work caught half of what their owners said they did, then there would be nothing left in the British countryside for genuine lads to catch, lol.

That's a cracker of a whippet mate. Very good feet. Best of luck with whatever you do with him. You might even have a good little team if your terriers Bush rabbits, I just think it turns every walk into a hunt if you go the right spots. Your whippet would stay in great shape and would thank you for letting him do what every fiber of his body wants to do. Do you know if he is from any particular line of whippets ?

Hello brenner, thanks for your comments, she's from the Colooney show kennel they are from Ireland but moved to Scotland over a year ago.

Her pedigree is all show dogs but as you know most Whippets will chase anything that's in front of them.

My Borders put up plenty so she will get her chance.

True lads. but some people just Like the breed .and as the man says, most will hunt anyway , show or not. As most whippet fans know.. there have been some really good dogs out of "strike while The iron is hot" and he was the result of a working line out crossed to a show dog. I believe the idea was to put conformation back into a tightly bred line as well as the obvious reasons for injecting fresh blood. That dog really threw whippets with fire and stamina. A.t.b brenn

I agree there are far to many want to be hunters around who know fukc all ... Deerhound whippet first cross what an amazing idea .... I am going to get one there must be loads of working deerhounds and whippets around and breeding them would be easy .........
