p3d 879
IMO I would bring the dog to a place heaving with game, travel further out into the countryside and you will find good spots. For a very young pup following an older dog into cover is the easiest method I have found. Don't agree with throwing stones or balls into cover, the dog will just start watching and waiting for you to continue doing it. It will probably distract them more than anything. It is a problem with some strains and is worth watching, nothing worse than a hunting dog walking at your side in the countryside which is full of scent. Natural prey drive should get it running ahead and searching. There will be stories of great terriers that were not good at bushing BUT a terrier should not be able to stop themselves chasing things, its in their DNA. 3 Quote Link to post

stop.end 4,079
you should never have to TEACH a hunting breed how to hunt... the ANTIs love that silly theory, not saying the OP is an ANTI or anyone else... im just saying.. if its a terrier with proper terrier DNA..(ie) his owner and many owners before them used them for vermin/pest control...they will hunt instinctively...same as the lab. springer lurcher and so on. 1 Quote Link to post
