Yesterday Was Rook/crow Covered Fields, Not Today

I popped over to my perm about 5.30 last last just to have a look at what was going on after my holiday. My god there were corvids all over the rape stubble so I planned a trip out this morning.

I set the hide up with a few crow decoys in a spot that I though would catch the attention of the birds coming from the woods and with the quite strong wind, ideally placed. Only took the shotgun today because of the strong wind..............................................not a bird in sight.

I sat there for 3 hours without even lifting the gun up. I noticed a few drifting across the edge of some trees so leaving the hide and deeks, I walked over and got tucked into the bushes. Shot like a twat, only picking up three crows and a woody for about 15 shots.

I enjoyed the walk about but not as I had hoped. Must get an owl decoy, must get an owl decoy, must get an owl decoy. A pair of buzzards perhaps didn't help matters but that is field sports for you. At least I got back on the perm and the farmer saw me so he knows I am at least scaring off the corvids.

I don't know how to do a clever drawing on the computer Mark but the best way to describe it would be a rolling hillside with crop fields, peas, rape, barley. These fields stop at a very long ( miles) wood running all along the edge of my perm.

I know where you are coming from regarding roosting but neither the woodies nor corvids seem to have a definite flight path in or out of the wood so I am guessing it is on the other side of the wood. I do not have permission to shoot either the wood or the land beyond, the owners have been contacted by a few guys I know but no shooting is allowed on their land, pity.

I went back up to my perm about 4pm to see if the hoards had returned but alas no so I decided to get into a spot of cover to try for a roosting session but apart from one rook that came within range no great shakes however I had no reason to rush home so stayed until dusk and managed to take a woody on it's way home and a nice plump Mallard, just don't know why I didn't take a second or third shot as there were four passing by, oh well never mind, I enjoyed the session and that is what it is all about.

Sorry about the photo being blurred but it was getting quite dark.

Next session with the NV as I found a new spot that I hadn't looked at before as I went stalking a fox, quite a few bunnies up for grabs but I didn't want to shoot them with a shotgun, instead I will do it quietly with the HW.

ps.. has it been windy as fec down your way, its been a nightmare up here the last 3 days

The wind has been really blowing a Hooly Si but now calmed down. I think if I tried to use the air rifle it would be difficult to hit a dustbin lid, at least the shotgun keeps me shooting.

i was in a really thick wood yesterday, and it was a nightmare!!

3 shots at a woody and it was laughing at me, so i packed up n went home:(

whys the weather always shite when you get time off :censored:

Because we are builders/ roofers Si, is why we are off work when the weather is shite. :censored:

We have dodged the rain all week and took off and put back on a large bungalow roof, - new for old.

A house roof, we would be off to.

Shot gun and GSP this morning. :D
