Large Tuna Washed Up In River Severn

Recommended Posts

There was a sword fish washed up at Severn beach last year, it was still alive, it's a big old river and could hide loads of secrets, I think the last sturgeon in England was caught off Cardiff ? And remember as a kid a live whale washed up at Severn beach

It is not unusual to have tuna in British waters, I have caught a Skipjack tuna in Carmarthen bay. There were around a dozen caught in the three years before I caught mine, nothing really big, they were around the three to nine pounds mark. The North sea had a run of tunny for a while and there was up to a couple of years ago a tuna fishery off the North West coast of Ireland.

I find it odd that they're citing global warming as the reason for the tunas presence yet thy were present in the arguably colder north sea less than 100 years ago.

Would love to see one never mind cash one, especially in British waters.

There are still bluefin tuna runs up the west and east coast following the now higher population of herrings in these areas. They used to do it up until the twenties with a hugely popular fishery off Whitby that were following the herring shoals back then!

I was at robin hood's bay a couple of months ago looking at all the pictures of the tuna caught from that era ...I was quite surprised to be honest I just assumed they never came this far
