Those of you who say that when a terrier is loose and checking a big place by actually travelling it is wasting valuable time IMO have never seen a good finding terrier. In fact I know some have never.

Regarding a terrier that flies around an earth like a headless chicken because he knows someones at home but can't find it IMO when this type of youngster settles down IMO they can often make good workers.

I'd rather a youngster being over keen than too cautious.

If there's something at home mine always looks up and winks at me!

Mine go back to truck for the digging gear

Despite what we think we smell and what an earth looks like, a terrier knows the difference between scent of an animal been and gone and a live animal still moving and breathing within the earth. My e

I wouldnt say a terrier running around is wasting time at all its nice to see an enthusiastic pup but theres some good terriers that can mark holes the same as a good hound that marks holes and some are rarely wrong the same as there is good terriers that run blank tubes which is also nice to see. Once another dog doesnt find after them checking and they are doing the job right it wouldnt bother me either way and i wont run down other men or their dogs as a waste of time.

True we all have a certain standard we want are terriers to reach. Im not stating I have the perfect terrier or ever had any without faults but i do have what i want now and if any that do show faults now a days are out of my kennels.

We nearly always have my mates colliexhound with us and she is a perfect marking dog,has never been proved wrong in all the years in looking at her. There were days when she would say no and the entrance to to an eareth be that well run the sides would be shining but enter a terrier and the answer would still be no one home today.

I don't know how many times we have said "always trust the dog" after spending hours f*cking about down the years, once it can be trusted, then believe, WM

That's it mate ,learning to trust is maybe an issue for some especially in company .There is definitely something in the old adage that if you smell him he's probably not in as rarely have we found one in when the entrance is stinking from a cold find ,probably pissed on last night .The exception would be hunting with hounds when many a time I've taken a deep breath at a hole ,saviouring the moment lol as charlie has bounced of the sides in his haste .
