Not that hard to answer, some dogs can stay for 1 minute some can stay for 10 minutes plus, the top staying dogs will run the very best of winter hares into the ground if they have got the land to do it and the hare decides to take the dog on instead of heading for nearest cover or hole

Agree with fensarefar and just a view of my own and a little depth into thought and - I think when you get your well conditioned dog behind a winter monster and both animals have both stamina and heart in their favour I think the outcome of this will end up in the dogs favour as the superior animal. Not down to size, speed, ok they will aid the dog in the task but ,,, it's pretty Simple, a well educated coursing dog has a lot more brain then a hare, Fact,,and I think this is where it pivots as the hare has a great will to survive and is in flight mode he will jink and jive with all its might to shake the beast off he's back but the dog reads this, the saluki will come out on top. Thus being the more superior animal. Upmost respect for hares and am not bias in any way, saluki will win, My view,,,

To be fair the hare has great natural stamina and I don't think many if any will of had the fitness regime a well conditioned dog that is ran regularly has had, for the hare to be as fit as the dog it will have to be coursed at least 6 times a week for a few months to be on par fitness wise with a dog that is getting run twice a week on 3 hares each time out, then the hare has got to sleep out in the middle of a wet frozen field in the wind eating a bit of old grass while the dog goes home to a mince dinner and a sun lounger with a heat lamp over it, got to admire the hare I'd say, if all the hares were as fit as the dogs it mite be a different story again and they be even harder again to catch regularly

doesn't really make much difference with a saluki bred dog as the hare is usually quicker off the mark anyway and a hundred yard slip isn't going to test the dog out much more anyway unless it's a whippet greyhound type that could run out of petrol , these are the ones that should give the hare a bit of law to let it get into its stride first

Fair law is to allow a sporting chance to all involved as peoples estimation of distance varies greatly also the use of an independent slipper is a lot fairer, most lads running now in the comps try to tip the balance away from dog versus hare to who can get the most advantage. Pick of land,,allowing kick ups, , walking time out .Its become a win at all costs game now but with as many short cuts employed as possible.

to get the wizz bangers found out and test the dogs stamina more, some of the slips in the forley cups were 300 yards plus which would take it toll on inferior dogs but would make little difference to the top dogs

see I watch that and I see a real slip and real test of a dog, dogs that kill from that sort of slip consistently are the real deal, gives the poorer hares a chance and the real uns almost too much of a chance, but when the dog stood over a a kill from a run like that the pride you would feel would be genuine, kick one up and no matter how long the run someone will always be able to say great hare but it was a kick up lol
