Pure Saluki

I think if you put the law too one side and every type was ran off proper fair law slips the kills would drop dramatically, I do still however think that the saluki lurcher would come out on top in this country, but as said above its best that all types are tried and tested after all that's what they bred for

The problem with most the input on these saluki threads is that most who comment have not even owned one, and if they have it usually stayed around year then bred from or sold on,   Cant run in smal

Ghostly Ease?, yea I see where you coming from with that phrase mate, when they flat out in pursuit they make it look so effortless, really graceful, a real pleasure to watch, kill or no kill, its the

When coursing under rules was permitted e.g the Waterloo Cup the Dog of choice was the universally recognised fastest breed over a limited distance was the Greyhound, The coursing bred greyhounds were specifically bred lines to accomplish the job in hand. The numbersof hares actually caught and killed was minimal , giving fare law and putting safe havens into the place to give the hare a sporting chance to escape the hounds. Out on the land the shortcomings of the Greyhound were quickly identified and the attention for pot fillers and match winners quickly turned to the various hunting juckels Collie/greys, Deerhound /greys. Whippet/ greys, Alsation /greys even Poodle/greys each of these crosses bringing something to the table. The coursing fraternity come from all walks of life and the search was on for the ultimate running killing machine, some threw bucket loads of money at it other dedicated years and year sof their lives in persuit of the holy grail. Lots of blood sweat ant tears and money went into the endeavour also some wide boys tried the dodges to tip the balance in their favour especially in the matches performance enhancing additives, boot lace slips the kill to run ratio was improving its debatable about the quality of the runs and even if it was even still a sport. The turning point appears to come when the Saluki blood became available to a small number of the matching officianados first half first crosses then varying percentages to one side or the other tryingto find that perfect balance. Some stock men had the skills to consistantly turn out quality dogs whilst others tried and failed many many times to breed the tools for the job.People often say old school boys and dogs were better thats the million dollar question one thing I do know many of the old teams are still talked about some have been embelished by the lapse of time but many events witnessed so some things did actually happen and certainly the coursing lines were improving byleaps and bounds. Now with all the Media the ease of travel some legends are stil lborn but also a lot off fanny is bandied around. The Hunting Ban has caused discomfort to say the least and in my opinion it has attracted some undesirable traits into the sport if you can still call it a sport.the breeding seems to be regressing A lot of breeders in it for the money and glory , thousands have been spent on failures and £30 quid on champions thats the attraction in the game of coursing. Arguments can go on till the day of judgement as to what dog is the best what breeding is the benchmark the thing is that x breeding or breeding pures the breeding should enhance the quality and capability of the dogs and hopefully the participants go back to the sporting aspect that is the bred and butter of the Coursing and hunting game ATB have great seasons and stay safe.

Used too improve what was here for the desired job here is another way too put it, in its own home its fine, that's the great thing a about dogs we can mix and match too strive too improve, a good un is a good un at the end of the day regardless of what label is fixed on it

I have little doubt that if our best dogmen went over to the Middle East and began a breeding plan the Arabs would all be going to them for their dogs.

why they can and do buy most of there lurchers salx,s from turkey /syria.the young rich arabs are more interested in the races today for big money

That's the thing, I can bet a lot of greyhounds would surprise people if they were raised in the field.

Yeah I agree there some of the first dogs I ever see run a hare were greyhound didn't mind the odd deer and fox either. But for me if I get a lurcher pup I want it to have a good chance of doing a few different things hares day or night big or small land few fox the odd deer or bit of ferreting it's hard enough to do this with a cross bred lurcher let alone a fast and furious greyhound.

I had a feathered small saluki bitch here for a while would

Run all day for aslong as it needed to I got it unbielivably fit me and a feller that's on here tom was out with it one day it was hitting the hares with its body bowling them over it just didn't have a mouth around it at all.
