bell 3,599
September equals a trip north for me. The weather gods always smile and we normally manage to winkle out a few fish. An overnight drive and a kip in the truck only disturbed by a couple of nosy plod and we were on the boat to the islands. As is the norm it was scorchio as we stumbled over the moor trying to nail an elusive grouse and as usual they evaded us.........did manage to see 4 as they flew off laughing and a couple of ringtail hen harriers (which probably accounts for the lack of grouse ) The dogs were knackered after their mornings work and we came off the moor with nothing but a red deer antler Still, there was always the afternoon to go fishing and we took our rods to a spot that has always been good to us in the past. We baited up and settled down with a beer. I was first in and soon realized it was a good fish. A flash of silver as it hit the surface and you could have knocked me down with a feather as a 6lb salmon came in. Just time for a quick snap and it was released to continue its journey My mate was next in with a dog fish and the we had some Pollock and a stunning cuckoo wrass Well a bit of breakfast on the beach, some mackeral grilled straight of the sea and a tussle with a conger in a lobster pot and it was all over till next year............ 15 Quote Link to post

Conger was a strap mate, will put up a vid of us trying to get it back in the sea lol. Back from Thailand last month, didn't catch ! Had a few nights at Chatrium riverside in Bangkok, there was some real big fish by the hotel topping, but wouldn't take anything, big silver flanks .....flew to Phuket and some time with the family at Kaho Lak and then a few days at Kaho sok in the national park.......enjoyed.... 1 Quote Link to post
novice 25
Did you catch the salmon on rod and line from the sea rather than river? A very rare catch as I understand it. Novice Quote Link to post

Yes mate, the river really is the lifeblood of the city. Really enjoyed the place from the people, the food and the contrasts of modern day living and the history of the place. The put and take places didn't float my boat if I'm honest, but would have been pleased to hook up,with one of the leviathans in the river......any ideas on what they were ? 1 Quote Link to post
