fishfish 17
on here ime known as fishfish, but on most ime known as fish, maybe weve met before. ime into most countryside stuff,my main aim is to provide some meat for the family(4 boys!) and a by-product of which is a good deal of fun.i trap and shoot with an airgun mostly for conie but occasionally i manage a pheasant or two.I also fish ,sea, course and game, although to be honest ime not allways successfull!! . i am quite artistic and make many things most of which are commisioned by customers. i make custom knives, engave glass, tie flys, make traditional fishing floats, walking sticks, leatherwork, and scrimshaw.if fact i can do most things in an artistic way. For a number of years my family and i have been near self sufficiant,we keep chickens for both meat and eggs(though of late weve had sod all on the egg front!) and having two allotments we grow 70% of our vegetable needs,i have shown some in county shows and won awrds, most notable being my giant 22lb cabages! With all the veg about the place as well as soft fruits i make award winning chutneys and jams which we sell throughout the year.Living as we do in such a rural area theres lots of free food in the hedgerows, autumn is a busytime here picking berries and nuts, a lot of the fruits go to jam making but we also use a lot of the old fasioned kilner jars to preserve things. Ime big on country cullenary skills and make my own hams ,bacon, pancetta and sausages, much of which i oak smoke in my self built smoker, youd be suprised at how half a pig worth £70 can be turned into products with a combined value of over £200.00!!!! .So if you ever need a traditional recipe for your game or anything else for that matter give me a shout. mole trapper 1,693
Very interesting post fish, we do a fair bit of the same, but nothing like as much as we should. Not the arty stuff, although FPO is pretty good at that sort of thing, me, well i could make a pigs ear out of a silk purse.
mole trapper 1,693
Tell you what fishfish, i was interested enough to take a look at your site also, unfortunatly it was not quite what i had expected, although self sufficiency is something to be applauded and in my mind a greatly sattisfiying activity it should not condone illegal and in humane ways of harvesting wild food when there are more humane methods openly available to us now, i refer to road casualties, it is not big or clever, just illegal and as already stated unnecessary. Shame really as you have the makings of a great site there. Regards MT,
