Guest SJM
A short video of Ollie retreiving a shot hare recently. I am going to miss this bitch when she retires as she has always been a very good retreiver of hares, live to hand pretty much every time as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFr8Kfm1Ws4 Quote Link to post

Guest SJM
I did a lot with her as a pup Snoops, lots of ball and dummy work with her and she loved it, could never sicken her of it, I have found most collie crosses love retreiving and are naturally keen for it. I dont think the pup will be as good as her mother, but then I have not done as much retreiving training with her, just the basics. One thing I think helps, and you will notice from the video, is that I give my dogs a lot of verbal praise, I try and do this from their very first retreive as a tiny pup, right though til they are old and grey and struggling to carry back, because I think its important to reward good behaviour, and I think a lot of people forget to give praise where its due. Not saying thats the case with your dog, some dogs are never good retreivers or naturally keen on bringing their catch back, but I find if your dog is, then praise it each and every time and it will keep on doing it because the reward is there. A wee pat on the head now and then doesnt go amiss either Quote Link to post

Guest SJM
Well. . . . as it happens I am in the process of organising something with a keeper who has offered us a day on, I didnt want to say owt until it was finalised, but I am hoping to chase it up and get it set up for next weekend as my bitch will be ready to stand somewhere around the week after so I wont get much more chances to run her, so the answer is yes probably looking very likely , I will email you as soon as I have heard back from this keeper lad Quote Link to post

Guest SJM
Do a bit of training with your dog first though mate, it gets fast and furious when these keepers are shooting the hares, the dog has to retreive them quickly before the next one gets up Quote Link to post
