Jonjon79 13,358
When I'm out with the rifle I really enjoy hunting and, I enjoy eating what I've shot. But, recently, I've slowed the car to allow a squirrel to get out of the way and, I caught this chap at work......... He flew into where I work, did a few laps of the showroom, then stunned himself by slamming into the window while looking for the exit. I checked him over - wings, chest and head were all ok. Sure, I could have necked him and put him in the fridge but, to be honest, I didn't even think about that at the time. I took him outside and put him on the skip - within a few seconds he flew off as happy as larry Funny ol' world 5 Quote Link to post

mark williams 7,563
I remember hurtling over my 4ft garden fence ( in my 50`s ) to get at a very young wood pigeon just taken by a hawk, it`s mother could do little or nothing. The action of jumping the fence startled the hawk - which flew away, and the young wood pigeon survived the attack. atb Quote Link to post

Jonjon79 13,358
Cheers for the comments I've often thought about the compassion shown by hunters. It certainly is an interesting thing. Maybe you have to have that mindset to be able to appreciate a sporting chance. I remember watching an old boy when I was a kid - he put his rifle down and untangled a small deer from a barbed wire fence. It kicked him during the struggle but, he got it out and watched it disappear. We often get birds flying into the shop at work. The big windows confuse them when they try to leave. We have to get them out because they'll set the alarms off all night. I've often been asked why I don't just nip home and get a rifle. But, like I said, it just doesn't seem right. You only have to follow them round and keep them moving for a while - they'll either go out the door or, become tired, then I can catch them. 1 Quote Link to post

We used to see them walking around our estate and in peoples gardens when I was a kid. Nice pic btw Quote Link to post

You have your avatar pic showing a good bag from a days hunting but, under other circumstances, you risked your knackers on a fence to save 1 pigeon. We must confuse the shit out of those non-hunting types 1 Quote Link to post

steg 609
Two days back i was driving to the vets (old lurcher bitch had to be pts) and there was a collared dove in the middle of the road which i had to drive around. Anyway 20 mins later driving back all choked up and fighting back the tears it was still there waiting to be squashed so pulled up, got out, picked it up to put it on the roadside out of the way... and the bloody thing took off out of my hands! Give me a smile on a sad day that did. 1 Quote Link to post
