I got one of those charnwood multi fuel burners . My only gripe is when you shut the doors it blackens them.

 

Had a visitor the other day that asked why I didnt keep the glass clean on my woodburner, basically whats the point!?

 

Always swept my own chimney.

Isn't there an air vent that stops that . . There is on mine , best way to clean the glass when it blackens up is dip a damp cloth into the ashes , that cleans them up a treat .

I do a better job mate and as I burn a lot of rubbish I like to do it regularly, your house insurance will always try and wriggle out of paying but I,m an old fashion bloke and would never pay anyone for doing something I can do myself, one professional clean is more than a set of brush,s just like a truck load of logs costs more than a chainsaw so I cut my own, infact most of my life is probably a little frowned upon by the modern pc, health and safety, insurance claims and blames culture of today, but I survive, thanks for your concern

You sir speak a lot of sense, I'm bloody useless at a lot of DIY stuff but il give it s go.....I'm a decorator and that requires very little in the way of power tools.... Anything with moving parts or the potential to kill me usually results in getting my mates in to sort out my mess.....

Just gave the chimney a good sweep and chopped about half a ton of wood, can't believe it's that time again, soon be dark nights and roaring fires

you should have them split and stacked in the spring and they would have all summer to dry out and you would get more heat from them,wf

there is a dial on the side goes up to num 5. I just clean the glass in the morning with paper towels and a spray cleaner. I burn normal coal to get it going then pile on anthracite. Someone told me to do that as anthracite is hard to get going. Get logs from the coalman aswell. Its good despite the cleaning of it.

mine blackens up if I close air vents down. I dont bother cleaning it. Just start it next day with logs instead of coal, get it going well and it burns off.

My dad has one of those screens that goes black , I think even if he could stop it he wouldn't . Hrs retired so loves his little projects . Seen him with one of those Stanley blade scrapers cleaning the screen

I,ve been cutting up scaffold planks, they don't need a lot of seasoning, I also burn loads of old timber like 2"-2" and roof joist, that's the reason I like to sweep the chimney at least every 6 months, just another chapter in my weird and wonderful life, I get paid to clear it up and then I get free heat from burning it,

They usually got what they call an airwash vent to keep the glass clear mate. Hardwood logs are the boys though, they burn clean as f**k.

..and you can get a ceramic hob cleaner called hob brite that works really well on the glass door. Once you been using it a while it builds up a bit of protection on the glass and makes cleaning it easy as hell.

Thanks for the chimney sweep reminder I'm giving my burner a overhaul in the next couple of weeks so ill get it done then ....I couldent imagine not having a wood burner I'm burning mostly south American dark walnut this week ....perks of being a cabinet maker. :

To clean the glass scrunch up old newspaper dip in bowl of water dip into ash pan scrub, repeat. No chemicals ;-) & not as good or expensive ;-)

Use some vinegar an water, wash glass with old paper dre.ched in the mix

Get mine cleaned by the guy that fitted it, Mates rates.

 

I cut and process my own wood, but have found a tree surgeon with a sideline in logs. Got him in the middle of summer with a cash offer for 2 tipper loads and am sorted till well into next year for £300.

 

Still magpie my own wood though, got to really eh ?
