Sirblessed 2,511
I recently returned from 8 day planed fishing, camping trip that was not supposed to include any ferreting, although the spotlight was packed. Prior to leaving I was contacted by a women (Vicki) who asked if we would be able to ferret, spotlight her and neighbouring properties on a regular basis to help reduce the rabbit population, when I enquired where she was, it was the same area we had planned to be camping a 2 ½ hour drive from home on the Mighty Murray River. After a brief conversation, I said I would come and access the situation, to ascertain weather or not this would be viable. A few ferrets, purse nets and a couple of small long nets were added to the must pack list. We spent the first 2 days getting settled and fishing, on the third day as planed I took the ferrets, dogs etc to inspect Vicki’s place. Upon arrival I was greeted warmly, and to my surprise I knew her husband from an earlier camping trip in years gone by ( he fixes boats for a living ) after a coffee and a chat, Vicki showed me around her place and we spent the morning ferreting and familiarising myself with the boundaries. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of warrens and flat ground; I haven’t seen a place so infested with rabbits for over 30 years. In the afternoon I went to Fred’s place ( a Neighbour ) and it was the same story, by time we drove around his place it was late afternoon, I didn’t have time to go to the other neighbours and asked Fred and Vicki to inform them when I was coming back (on the 24/9) So it looks like I will be spending a lot of time there over the coming months, even better is the properties have a large area of private river frontage, for me to set up camp. The rest of the trip was spent fishing, and the odd bit of ferreting around camp, all in all a very enjoyable trip, a few fish, rabbits and a new permission. Below is a video footage of Vicki’s and Fred’s, fishing from the bank, the boat, and a bit of ferreting. I hope you enjoy the video as much as we did making it. Cheers Guys- Doug Quote Link to post
