Is It Wise To Cross Along Lurcher Line Back To Pure Greyhound?

Recommended Posts

I prefer fast up and at em coursing types, even lighter bull coursing types,

Auld boy always to me if your thinking of add GH blood in to a line, then let's someone eles do it and get a line off them..

Ones Iv seen where great preydrive, fast, and real determined runners BUT a lot died young or injured them self and lacked that the wind and the ones I seen lacked that little brain also or at least what i'm used to

There's a line of lurchers close to me that's been going for 30+ years that's very very greyhoundy 3/4 grey 1/4 whatever, [ whippet, collie, beddy, bull, saluki] to 3/4 cross and every now and again a full greyhound thrown in for good measure, there very fast and boy do they look the part but they've got a lot more bad points than good, bad feet, poor stamina, thin skin, turn like the QE2, lack of nose, shit recall, and just run about flat out in a straight line, this line badly needs a very well bred hard and fast at them saluki lurcher or a well bred half cross of whatever type they fancy, but to make that suggestion to them you would need to get the boxing glove out, don't be blind, do the right thing :boxing:

i dont think you can generalise really. saw a bitch a few years ago bred from one of david james line bred collie greys put back to a pure grey and she was dynamite, her litter mates produced some very good pups when bred back to james stuff, very close to the root stock but faster

but i have seen rubbish bred from pure greys too, lacking the best qualities o either parent and just diluted low-grade greyhounds were the end product. but then again thats pretty much the majority of lurchers round the shows these days :)

What's your opinions?

Sometimes its is wise to cross a lurcher line back to a pure greyhound,

Sometimes lurcher lines can become very mongrelly and crossing lurcher to lurcher can make things worse,,useing a greyhound can often have a leveling effect on a line,

The best lamping lurcher i have ever seen (to date) was crossed with a full greyhound.

depending on what your end goal is and what you have got in the lurcher line then putting a pure greyhound in the mix wouldnt be such a bad idea. greyhounds can put height back into a line along with a little added speed which is sometimes not so bad.

you could well end up with some good pups on you hands. mixed with the right lurcher blood they could be some hardy dogs

That's it, the end goal. Put pure grey back in to your lurcher line, if they need a bit of extra pace/height etc, heep a couple of pups back, then breed back to your lurcher line.

But most people won't have the time or inclination to undertake such a project

This line of very greyhoundy lurchers are that bad, in fact , no good points at all, they've been going for 30+ years? That's a LONG time to waste on a shit line of dogs. Seems quite puzzling to me
