dodger 2,765
dogs done alright yrs ago when there was no fancy diets. plenty of good raw does them. There was a lot more butchers/knackers yards about then to source "good quality" fresh meat, lads might want to use or add a "good" complete now just to cover all basis as it can be easy to under do or over do a home made diet for a dog in hard work if just out for one for the pot etc then it won't matter to much look at them dogs roamin the streets of Asia they get left over rice water with bits a rice left over inbetween bin diving n there still on four legs roamin the streets all day ..... But them greyhound type completes arnt good enough on there own if the dog is getting some stick the dog will manage but it won't thrive especially once the quarry picks up, same can be said for a barf diet IMO some dogs will thrive on it but others will need other things added plus all dogs are different and require there diets tweaking with that's how Iv found it myself over the years anyway.. 3 Quote Link to post
trenchfoot 4,243
Allaboutdogfood.co.uk rates them all and lets you know which ingredients are suspect . Millie's wolfheart riverside mix at 37 a bag is fantastic stuff, I have a bitch with allergies and its all she eats and she thrives on it . Looks good stuff aswell could be a good top up for there usual scran.. Dodger, its just up the road from you. Itll save on postage 1 Quote Link to post

Caravan Monster 323
I feed Akela .... It works well fed alongside raw or on its own. My Saluki x could do with a little more weight on her. Would it be worth trying raw mixed with a premium dry like Akela? She eats around even finely shredded veg and carbs like brown rice or pasta. If I feed her more meat, she'll just bury it Quote Link to post

So what I do is very lightly cook it with a bit of beef stock or a stock cube then blitz it in a food processor so it's completely liquidised. Sometimes I mix that puree with meat etc, but what I've started doing recently is pureeing raw liver and mixing it with that. It comes out as a very wet consistency but the dogs absolutely love it and wolf it down. I get a whole ox liver from my local abattoir and cut it up into lumps of about 1 - 11/2lb and freeze them. Once a week each dog gets one meal of pureed raw liver mixed with the pureed veg. Quote Link to post

Your lucky they don't pebble dashed your house with that lot lol plus there gettin a whole lot of vit a there from the liver and then the veg on top so be careful of vitamin a toxicity, I give mine liver twice a week but no more than about 50 60 grams each dog each time as it can make em loose, it's vey rich liver tho n weather for you or the dog you don't need all that much to get the benefits.. 1 Quote Link to post
Caravan Monster 323
@ Krawnden - that's very dedicated food prep! I found out today that she will eat shredded curly kale mixed into mince, but that's not enough on it's own. I'm going to try feeding something like a third to half of the recommended ration of Akela Original alongside normal quantities of raw and see how it goes. Not 100% sure about mixing dry and raw but will see how it goes. Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,089
Got a bag I will try it with a bit of raw for my younger 2 dogs Quote Link to post
