Paid 935
I just picked up 200 yards of 15 mesh deep 2" 6z nylon sheet netting for £20 and 20 electric fence poles for 70p each I already have some top and bottom line, just thick nylon cord, as used for purse nets ext. and I'm going to have a go at putting a couple of quick sets together. The electic fence poles look made for th job to me 70cm long, pointed at one end, and flattened at the other with handy clips for securing the net too. Also strong, but with some flex But before I start, I have a few questions, does all look ok so far? and how far apart (in meters) should I fix the poles in ? I'll be double bagging, but do I stitch in the bagging, or as the poles will be fixed, just leave it loose between the poles? If It's best to fix it in, how regular should I do that? and do I do top and bottom? or just top ? The floor space I have to work with is 7 meters, so that would be handy for fixing the poles at, but is that a bit too long, or short ? Thanks in advance for any help. or tips forthcoming. TOMO 26,764
take it out side and do it, on a field when theres no wind, as your going to be ocupied for about 3 hours. dont like the look of those poles , all those hook thing will get cought on your mesh. GET RID OF THEM. with any luck the top and bottom meshes may have some line through them already. if this is the case , just tie your running lines to one end , and pull it through. do this both top and bottom. that bit you can do indoors in a couple of mins. then take it on a field anchor the running lines with a peg and pull your net along to both ends. at this point i set it up like a traditional net on hazel, till you have the bag evenly distributed. when thats done you can go about tieng in your poles . fiber glas you would use gromets and a clove hitch. hazel use clove hitch with a rubber band. tieing the bag in is a personal choise. Paid 935
Cheers Tomo, I was just thinking of doing a bit tonight, but I'll hold five for now, and do eet tomorrow, in a hall I have access too. I'm going to hold onto the clips for now, maybe tape them to stop snagging, but if its a hassel, I can easy remove them, or just stick to hazel. how far apart do you do your poles mate ? TOMO 26,764
6 or seven yards. some lads like to have them 5 , again just personal choise. the more poles you have the better the top line stays up. the down size is the added weight and space in a basket Quote Link to post
stubby 175
there are another make of electric fence poles, that will work much better than those you have bought, these are around 27" total length, with a 6" steel spike, giving you around 21" of round plastic tube to attach net too, no bits to snag on, and so easy to push in ground, although i have bought the fibreglass ones from MAGNUM'S, I've got these electric ones as back-up Quote Link to post
Paid 935
Must be my scotish blood but the consensus certainly seems to be "snaggy" lol, and as I fecking hate a snag, you and Tomo could certainly be right Ok, OK I'll open me wallet for once !!! Quote Link to post
Paid 935
I will open my wallet, and get some propper poles, but decided as I had some free time to put one 30m net together anyway. And it was a lot easier than I expected. 100% bagging, poles about 5 paces apart, bagging not tied in, but I might change that on a drier day. I didnt find it snaggy, but take on board whats been said. Hopefully catch one or 2 in it tomorrow. And I've only used just over a quarter of the sheet netting. so I'll get onto magnum monday. Hob&Jill 258
You dont fancy telling me where you got that netting from do you? Do you just buy the netting, cut it double (or more) to the length of longnet you want and then thread the cord around it? Quote Link to post
