When I saw the title, I thought we were referring to gamekeepers,I,m sure many from the shooting side will be having a peek for the same reason, but here are a few, favourite starship is the wooden one in the middle, favourite natty because it fits me personally, and my favourite and only shop bought the hathcock target sniper by Bill Hayes, I also have a simple u cup made from buffalo horn that's also a keeper as it was a gift from a good friend but I can't find a pic of it

yes mate I,ve made loads of em, the easiest ones to make are like the one on the left its just an old crutch, you have to cut down the tubes and drill out the rivets, but it only takes a couple of hours, here's another crutch one I done the other day you might be able to see it a bit better, they shoot really well and certainly whack out some serious power, just not very concealable so I don't get to shoot em as often as I,d like, it's a bit to powerful for the garden and to big to have with you in your pocket

"just not very concealable so I don't get to shoot em as often as I,d like,"

Hi Greyman: That was the problem I had with mine...and I also had some accuracy problems due to the fork design (my fault)...

So I've put my starship in storage for the moment.

However I bought two new slingshots: A Barnett Diablo and Jack Pyke Tornado slinghsot (I know -shop bought!). The reason?

1)Simplicity of attaching tubes (for both)

2) the accuracy due to straight forks on the diablo - I'm very accurate with it.

3) For the Tornado: adjustable forks

4) I couldn't better the manufacturer's design with my own (am not really a craftsman!)

In the end I just though F-it!

In addition I've found that heavy tubes (blue dub dub) with a heavy leather pouch equals significantly fewer 'flyers' and vastly improved accuracy.

To get the power that I got from my starship I simply set up the Tornado with longer tubes and have learnt to shoot butterfly style (ish) when shooting at distance.

The result is 2 in-expensive rigs for shooting 10m (Diablo) and 20m (Tornado) and both are portable.

Hex nuts and 9.5 steel (10m plinking) are the ammo - still not had the chance to pack the hex nuts with lead, but that will be next..

Nice slingshot designs by the way - very nice..You're obviously a better craftsman than I am!

. The first ever starship I saw was based on a Diablo with extended forks, it was called a longtom and used by one of Americas best, a guy known as blue skeen, there are a few old films on utube, with regard to being a better craftsman, it's more to do with me having a bit more spare time, and a nice big workshop to potter around in, I may be getting along in years but I,d still rather be in my man cave making bits and pieces than sat watching the shite my missus can watch for days on end, lastly if your enjoying what your doing it makes know difference if it's shop bought or home made, as long as you have a set up your happy with and can hit what you point at most of the time, that's all that matters, cheers

Hi,

I'll have a look for the youtube clips - sounds great! The Diablo (the one without the silly stabilisers) shoots very accurately - deceptive as it looks a bit like a kid's toy.....but with a decent band set packs quite a punch.

I envy you with the workshop - my 'shed' which I'd like to be a man cave/ shed is full of kid's cr*p! Agree TV is F*cking dull - the Mrs watches it, I just pay the bill. :icon_eek: .

Happy shootin'!

Is this the clip?
