philpot 5,014
I have been lucky with my kids. My son loved shooting air rifles and spent hundreds of hours in out cellar target range and loading 12 gauge cartridges with me in the days when it was much cheaper to load your own. My oldest daughter was like my shadow, whatever I did, she did and became a cracking little sea angler but not shooting although she does enjoy a good plinking session with my son in law and myself, she is a better shot than my son in law if I am being honest. My youngest daughter loves nature so not keen on me shooting live quarry but she loves fishing when I take her which isn't so often due to her work etc but also has a keen interest in clay shooting and as we are off to Suffolk next weekend for two weeks, she will no doubt be both fishing and clay shooting at High Lodge with us. We introduced her boyfriend to the art of shooting this year and he is so keen, he will be on the lookout for a gun before long. Phil Trouble is clay shooting is totally different kettle of fish to airgun . you are not really walking around the countryside trying to be silent , a low profile and blending in with the surroundings around you on a nice quiet day , instead you are standing there with a few other guns all going BANG ,BANG ,they can never just let one cartridge go they must let both barrels go , i hate bang bang guns and i use to shoot them as well I agree Mitch, it is totally different and cannot be compared but both have great appeal to me. I have shot clays for over 40 years at local clubs and national level and team events, whilst now really enjoying air rifle shooting both at targets and hunting which in turn has got my interest back for pigeon shooting with the shotty. I think the two whilst very different hold their own challenges and demands so on a tue evening a bit of banter at the clay club with friends having friendly competition and the next day in a hide or stalking bunnies. There is room for both in my life and long may it continue. Which is the stronger pull for me...........................both the same because they are so different. PeskyWabbits 464
It's up to us then isn't it? THL against modern society. Against anti-bloodsport brigade, whose only experience of nature is David Attenborough, or parking on a grass verge when they are at a car boot sale. You can't reason with some people, killing animals is cruel. I daren't mention it with work colleagues, people who dish out slug pellets to protect their plants from slimy invaders, compared to me using lead pellets on furry slugs (rabbits). At least I know my target is controlled and no collateral damage - birds, mice, etc I would like to say, take an anti with you, it may widen their perspective but some are so fanatical it may just ruin it. For us a day out hunting is a great day out even if you don't have any success, a day out in the countryside is never a day wasted. 4 Quote Link to post
