It helps more if you can out run the dog lol.   I

Cows and calves can be a deadly combination especially if you add a dog to the equation!

That'll do for the curious and bullocks/calves but you can forget it working on a protective heffer. Always carry a stick in a field of cows and have thee dog loose but at heel

What would be the best thing to do if one turned on you and you were a long way from the edge of the field.

Would I be right in thinking it would be best to run at the cow waving arms and shouting?

The fields next to my house are grazed by meat cows so a bit more aggressive than a nice sedate milk cow. A few weeks back one charged at the fence alongside the lane when I was walking the dogs ... She broke two strands of the barbed wire fence and then backed off ... Luckily all my dogs are completely broken to them and just looked at her looked at me and carried on walking ... They are a big old beast to upset .......

I walk through milk cows all time there's only one or two off them who think there the cow version of John Rambo..I tend to not to walk through when the castle have young as they can get Abit jumpy/protective at the slightest thing...only time I cam close to getting squashed was the beginning off November years ago when I was walking through a field of beef at night when someone let off a huge firework not far from the field and when it whent off it lit the sky and field up and they all went crazy..lucky enough I was close to the fence were there was a tree and managed to get under the fence and behind the tree I case they came through the fence..

I have always got my catty in my pocket, and a good stinging ass cheek shot normally stops em in there tracks, and makes em back off to a safe distance, though I did have a mother with calf have a pop at the dogs the other week and she took a half a dozen whacks before she got the message, I always stand my ground with them as I think most people that do get killed by them have fallen over running away and simply get trampled, plus I,m to old and f****d to run any distance over about ten meters
