Which Alt-Bergs ?

Recommended Posts

I need a new pair of boots and was wondering what you guys would recommend.

I just need them for country walks, starting with my holiday in Cornwall later this month, my present boots are only good for the allotment now.

Would you go military?

Or would you go walking boots?

I want brown and quite fancy goretex lined.

Cheers

I got the malham for hiking, the leather is a bit too soft and has scuffed a lot on the toes, but the boots were comfy from the off and are one step up from my old brashers. I'd go altberg again no qu

Only draw back I've found is they horrible too break in, but durable enough and waterproof as well

Found Lowa gtx bang on out the box more breathable and more comfortable as well, both half decent boots

I got Altbergs they keep my feet dry but they ain't the most comfortable tbh, the heels have no give in them.

I read something about them specialising in a foot type with a more narrow heal and wider front foot.

I'm surprised to read that, when you look at the pictures on the web site, they are quite a grainy leather which I would associate more with a harder leather.

But you've got them so you know.

Mate if you have a go outdoors near you just go in there, it's know good making your mind up before hand as they have some monster discounts on certain brands, I bought a pair of walking boots last year and they were £150 everywhere else, but 50 percent off in go outdoors so cost £75 never heard of the make before, but I have had them for a season and given them some terrible abuse they are still water proof and comfy and look like they will last at least one more year if not three or four they are made by scarpa, my last pair were north face and they were also half price, so just pop in and see what deals are on

I know the defenders I've got come in different widths, the heels in mine are like plastic heels so have no give. They're great boots just ain't the best if stomping uphill a lot, im gonna try Lowa next.

Whichever you buy pal get some gear too proof em with whist your on they last a hell of a lot longer if the leather is kept supple n they dried out properly after using them n cleaned

I've abused my altberg defenders and it's showing now in cracks in leather, my faulty though my Lowa are pristine cos I've kept em right when I've used em

My pal got a pair off eBay military surplus and too be fair they was in great condition nicely broken in but hardly any wear showing on the soles only paid about thirty quid beats the shit out of breaking them in mine where awful took good month before they where comfy

I had exactly the same with my Mallerstangs jonah. Toes got battered in no time.

When i replace these I'll be looking for a pair with a rubber 'rand' around the toes.

Other than that cant fault them.
