Running 2 Dogs

Recommended Posts

Hi all, need some advice. I've got a 13month old lurcher has had 15 rabbits but will retrieve to 10 yards then run off then back then run off then come back without the rabbit. I've tried walking off. With a dummy or toy he retrieves fine played tug of war all good. Am I worth letting a old dog that can't take the rabbit off her go once she has caught to make her more possesive and carry and not drop. Then recall the older dog. And try to call the young dog in. Please help

Your not doing to bad there sir with your advice   The dog should have no resistance in or around its owner, a lot of little niggles with the dog are ironed out by a feeling of trust in that space

Is she a shy type, yourself her and the rabbit in the same space is not working for her, Feed only in your space , sit on a chair and get her putting her feet up on you to feed A dog can play all

Get the dog retreaving property on its own, then try the two together.   Probably thinks older dog will nick his price.   If you carry on taking both you could end up with a dog that Never retr

I've tried with lamp on and off. When on I've left it shining on to floor around me not to dazzle dog

it needs to stay off pal, has the dog had all these rabbits recently? there will be plenty who work a couple of dogs but at the start they need to do it themselves, get it right on its own first

I take mine out but miss get to around 6 to 8 foot and stop they always have done I've just settled for that. But like the boys said try themselfs. Also start off the season because they've been rested they can be alittle hyper on there first couple off kills. Try going down to they're level when retrieving see if that helps

I've always taken 1 dog lamping. I'm trying to ask advice on getting the dog to carry better and be more possesive of the rabbit. Yeah she's only had 15 rabbits but I'm trying to get her sorted before she's into a bad habit.

Does she retrieve a dead rabbit okay if you throw it for her?

If not work on that. Then try again.

A dog can play all the games of ball and tug but still harbour some resistance to its owner

Did she ever retrieve ??

A dead bunny is hardly the same as warm wriggling kicking squealing live bunny tho is it

No but it would be a step in the right direction surely?

Then when that's sussed try a warm freshly killed one at ferreting.

Then when that's sussed try again.

To just keep trying on the lamp without going back a step or two is just enforcing the bad habit more don't you agree?
