Gaz_1989 9,539
I weigh around 106kg and never tried my 1 rep-max incase I fcuk my back up. I've been working out sporadically for just under a year but always had quite a bit of muscle mass all my life. I still don't know if I'm doing all my lifts with correct form but I think I could piss 250kg plus deadlifting. What sorts of weight are you doing for reps on deadlift mate? Gaz_1989 9,539
Pulling them weights at 11 stone (ish?) is bloody impressive mate. Fair play. Got an old uni mate who's 82kg and pulling around the 300 mark. Thats 3.6xBW! That's bloody impressive.

Like you say it's all relative to your size I suppose. I'm 16-17 stone and couldn't pull 200kg at the moment.

I wish I was more consistent with my training and my diet. Getting to the gym after work and knowing it's going to be packed full puts me off and must admit seeing 90% there juiced off their tits can be disheartening. I took training more seriously when I was younger but my dogs are my priority now and get most of my spare time. I just see the gym as a bit of fun these days and tend to favour a bit of bag and pad work over the weights but still lift now and then.

I feel if you're going to get great results naturally you have to train sensibly and get your diet spot on. I hate doing stuff half-hearted and would rather not go than turn up and go through the motions. I've always been in shape through boxing and running but at my age I guess building lean muscle mass isn't all to easy when not fully committed with training and diet...

I managed to knock up a home set up pretty cheap from gumtree stiff and gradually replaced stuff with new equipment now my garage is set up as a home gym with everything I need. Makes some difference having it at home you can go out and get done what you need without travel time chamging at the gym waiting g on equipment and like you say you don't have to wait about on any machines watching folk who have been in the gym 2 month full of gear out lifting you that's the worst. No room for all that tbh, I pay £15 a month and it's a decent gym.... when it's empty. I've heard there's a proper Mr's gym in the next village to me and you pay for the year and you get a key to go whenever you decide, sounds decent to me.

I refuse to buy all the silly machines mate...no need. A good selection of free weights, a decent bench is really all you need eh. I got the multi gym for free but the plan is to convert it, stick it on the wall and use it as a back machine. A pull up bar and a heavy bag and I think that will be fine. Gaz_1989 9,539
My thoughts entirely mate. The multi gyms are shite. I was gonna break it down and just use the cables to make a lat pull down or a seated row. And then like you say just get a pull up bar and some decent weights. I would like a squat rack too. Might get my old man to make me one.
DogFox123 1,379
The lack of knowledge people have included the blokes who look well is unreal. The number of times I've heard people say "I'm going light now to rip-up" or "I'm going to go heavy to bulk-up" is crazy... Telling my mate it's pure bullshit is like talking to a brick wall, funnily enough he looks shite after years of training....

For very little money you could knock up a decent set up. It's only the free weights and plates that cost a f***ing fortune.

Everybody at my work follows shite programmes some p.t has charged them a fortune for and talks about just wanting ton"tone up and not look like a bodybuilder" the amount of shite I've heard over the years I just let it go and get on with what I'm doing now it used to get to me. Lab all you need is a bar/dumbbell bars ,weights, decent bench. Squat rack . Dip station. Then fire a bar for pull ups between the rafters. Those should be the staple of every home gym in my opinion and can be used to get in great shape without any other equipment. When I first started I got all second hand stuff pretty cheap from gumtree. I've got most of that now mate. Just need somewhere to put it all now...?
