toxo 160
Just watched an episode of that weapons of war thing. The guy said that when the Hercules transport was weaponised and turned into a gunship (The AC130) amongst other weapons it carried a 20mm cannon that fired 6000 rounds a minute equal to 3 tons of bullets a minute at a £1 each. He also said the plane carried an "inexhaustable" amount of ammo. How much was that plane worth when it took off?
Born Hunter 17,832
Don't they nickname Hellfire's 'Astons', because each one costs the same as an Aston Martin? Those AC130s have 105mm howitzers on board too! Killing folk is expensive, lol.

I don't think it would take off, if it was carrying an inexhaustible amount of ammo, and if it does fire 3 tons of ammo in one minute, that's 30 tons in half an hour, just work out the payload, and you will know how long the ammo will last and the answer definitely will not be forever,

toxo 160
Come on guys. I don't think he meant for you to take it literally. I imagine the 3 tons included the shell, primer and powder as well as the bullet. I do know it's a hell of a lot of money. I always assumed that loadsa ammo was wasted in wartime because it was ultra cheap. Not the case it seems.
Malt 379
They're some piece of kit. They can maintain a serious amount of massiveither, precision, sustained firepower on a single point by circling a target.
Greyman 29,686
Well just had a quick Google and the payload is 19 ton, so at 3 ton a minute, that would give around 7 minutes, of firepower giving it everything, I just find it strange how people seem to believe everything and anything they see on tv, radio, and the daily papers without question, that was my only point really, I still would,nt want to be chased by the fecker that's for sure, and if it was on your tail it probably would seem like infinity,

They fire the guns in short bursts. The plane is the C130 Spektra it carry a 20mm, a 40mm bofors and iirc a 75mm cannon as well. They're absolutely deadly as some of the ex forces guys who served in Iraq will testify.
