Bull Terrier X Terrier

Recommended Posts

Hi was wondering if any of you guys with more experience with terriers could tell me if this sounds right there was a guy saying that the old man that learned him to run a trap line used a dog that was a x between a bull terrier and something he called a German terrier that would track coyote bobcat fox and Badger that pulled the traps off and if they made it to a den the dog would go in and pull the animal out of the den I was wondering if anyone of you had ever heard or seen terrier used to pull the game out I always thought they bay them under ground and the hunter dig the game out but terrier hunting is still kind of new here so I thought I would ask some people that had more of a history with them

Well FairPlay lads, I,ve owned and worked terriers since it was legal to dig and kill everything and anything, right upto the sorry state we find ourselves in today and I,m struggling to know what the

The trials were never about drawing the game,it was about working the game for a time limit in complete silence with judges listening for the slightest whimper.

I hope no one puts up a copy of the rules. It's a very private part of history in the Irish working dog game. Regarding the trials not being a game test ? I was going to stay out of a silly thread,

The guy I was talking to just said a bull terrier is there a big difference between the two if it was done with Badger was it done all the time hunting or was it a training thing for a young dog

Well yeah, ones a grotesque show dog and the other is a working dog. Didn't your uncle give you more detail??

Just that it was short and was about 20 pounds and had the scars of a fighting game dog I was just wondering that with the other terrier blood for the tracking and bull blood for the catching could it be possible to draw the game that has the size of bobcat and coyote and hold them until the hunter get there

Well that would be what I would think I sent a message to the guy that was telling me about the dog for some more information but I was thinking that a lot of you guys would have had more experience with terriers would maybe have some ideas if it could be done the only thing I would say is I have seen a few hunting shows were bull terrier was used as a catch dog for wild hogs they would hit around the ear or tail were the hog could not get to them so maybe it possible

Well the old Badger trials was a similar concept so highly likely, you're in the states so I'm assuming by Bullterrier you mean APBT or you talking about the real Bullterrier?

You think that's an automatic sign of gameness? Even some game Bulldogs sing in bouts...

Can anybody post the rules of the old Badger Trials? A test for a dog no doubt but dogs were getting worked harder in the field than in the trials....

I never said it was a sign of gameness, just stating the way it was run.I have also seen strong dogs in the field that were very good at there work and would on occasion make a bit of noise, more through frustration than anything else.

Because six minutes is hardly the same as a real dig the trials were good but they were more a place to meet like minded people and get a certificate not a real test

But strong dogs were not used at a real dig by terrier men(except by the cowboys).
