Didn't read any posts that were anti-hunting?

Thats what there training those dogs to do and what you condemn them for! Hunting.

you think thats hunting and you acuse people like me of exaggerating its the like of you with your stupid ideas on hunting taking all measures to get a dog going and misconceived morals on cruelty that got hunting banded by putting illogical reasoning to an obviously cruel practice and then try to compare it to coursing hares with muzzles that generally cannot be caught and i dont know maybe you have to make it this easy for your dogs to catch something but i dont they either have it or they dont when would even a wild dog get anopportunity like that im off lamping wild game take care ............ :feck:

What a well wrote and educated reply roan. How long did it take you to write that? :feck:

And i though hunting got banned was because people thought hunters actually supported baiting and cruelty like this :hmm:

At the end of the day no form of legit hunting involved baiting, especially the same poor animal time and time again. If the deerhounds flushed and caught the wolf, i dont have a problem with that, same with fox, deer, bunnies or bloody moles ffs.

Completely different, no comparison at all to hunting.

But as always to try to win a discussion lets call people who dont agree...antis

Moll.

if the russian chose to train there dogs like that who are you to judge

I judge it the same way you are judging me for my opinions... so who are you to judge me...get my drift :hmm:

this topic was closed a minute ago (apologise to Molly for the PM now that i can reply on here with my knowledge of wolf coursing)

In russia they have different opinions and are from a different mind set.

may i explain a few things.

In Russia a wolf hunt consists of a pack of hounds (very similar to Foxhounds) they are operated by groups of peasant on foot and their primary and only function is to flush the wolfs from woodland/cover.

(A bit like a beaters line but with hounds rather than spaniels)

the mounted huntsman then is stationed near to the expected flush point of the wolfs, they have long coursing slips and slip the borzois from horse back, they run a minimum of 3 borzois , sometimes more.

It is not the purpose of the borzois to kill the wolf, they "pin" the wolf, this may be by actually pinning it to the floor, or they may hold it at bay, it is not a slight on the borzoi not to kill the wolf, it is not their role.

when the wolf is pinned, the mounted huntsman who slipped the borzois approaches and uses a special short sword to despatch the wolf.

If their is a shortage of wolfs in the vicinty then that wolf will be taken alive (they have large tongs like badger tongs) and caged and used again.

If they are using a caged wolf, they will place the cage on a flat bed horse drawn carriage and tour the local villages, the locals then follow the "hunt" and watch as the wolf is released, chased and usually re-captured.

The russian philosphy is different to the western worlds and their perception of "sport" is also different.

borzois in their native russia are a thing of beauty and really are a capable animal.

i aren't condoning or criticisng just explaining a few facts about the russian wolf hunts that no one else seemed to know or have shared.
