Deker 3,478
OK ........an answer you are not going to like! I would go as far as to say you will never STOP rats with a rifle. Control methods are, poison, trapping and a .25 Theoben air rifle or .22Rimmy with shorts or shotshell and a good cat. Using a combination of these you can wipe out the rats but it will still take a lot of doing. Using a conventional air rifle will only ever give you a bit of sport and tend to bring quite a low level of control unless you spend every hour God gives you on the case. There is nothing wrong with the ratcatcher or many other air rifles for the job of sport ratting, if you want to make an impression you will have to do a lot more. Quote Link to post
trappsy 0
Shooting rats is all about sport, we can get as many as 30 a time on the pig farm, and im talking each, the best vermin controllers in the world have no idea how to irradicate rats so we havnt a chance, remember that even if you dont kill outright, and the others dont eat em, rats are haemophilliac so they will bleed to death anyway, and to answer your question, any multishot gun is best. bill88 6
For out the box performance at indoor ratting, the ratcatcher is the biz, another handy tool for the job would be a BSA ultra multi in .22,but probably a little over powered for indoors. Quote Link to post
bunny bouncer 0
Has any body tryed the crosman 1077 or the nightstalker me & a mate used to use both these guns with great results in the barns we used to shoot in . 12 shots as fast as you can pull the trigger i know they only do 600 fps but with bisley practice they stopped a lot of rats Quote Link to post

Now you are getting a little silly and showing your nievety, we are talking pig farm according to you and I suspect the original post was not referring to London. Regardless of that I and many many others could eradicate the rat from yours and any other farm. If you want to be stupid I could also do it in London given the resources, the simple reason rats rule London is that nobody has come up with the cash to fund a complete removal programme. However, there are many vermin controllers in London who do, on a daily basis remove rats entirely from problem areas. Rat control is a job to most and a sport to the minority. Your comment the best vermin controllers in the world have no idea how to irradicate rats is ill thought, untrue and insulting. Edited December 8, 2007 by Deker Quote Link to post
